John,

Having checked through all John Ward marriages 1936 - 1941 it would seem that the marriage which Brenda (Moody Blue) has found for you above is the only possible so I believe it would be worthwhile for you to send for this certificate.

"Still looking" has posted instructions for you above on how to do this.

The cert would tell you ages and occupations for Mary and John and should also give name and occupation of both of their father's so that we can then trace the correct families back.

Once we are sure we have the correct families, we can then try to trace them forward and perhaps find other family members and details which may help you.

Do you know of any other names within the family?

Were there any other children of this 'short' marriage

Any other details you have may also help connect.

Dea x

P.S. - If you order the cert ONLY put John Ward's name in NOT Mary's as the name Gales / Gailes is spelt differently and so they may not send the cert if you put the wrong spelling !!!!!!!!!

I have PM'd you the details, i cannot post them here because it is living person data.

If the marriage Brenda gave is the correct one (which is probable, it would seem that we do not need to look for Margaret Gales and brother John.

It is more probable that Mary Gailes parents were Walter George Gales + Ann Henderson (they married Tynemouth Dec. 1906 ref 10b 518)

Of course, there are 2 other names on the same page in the Register, so I am 'presuming' this Ann married Walter as I can find no other possibility
Children of this couple would probably include:
Mary Gailes mmn Henderson - Lanchester 10a 529 - Sept. Q 1917 (which someone has already posted)

+ possible brother - Joseph H Gailes mmn Henderson b Lanchester 10a 727 - Sep Q 1914.

Maybe Tracy could kindly find some Electoral Roll info on Joseph H ?

We really need to get confirmation from John Ward's marriage cert first or we will be following the wrong people?

John, I hope that you have good luck with finding your family.

I am still at a loss trying to find my grandfather. My mum is now 79, so we are talking 1928 ish. But my grandparents never married.
All I have is a name, an occupation, an approximate area of Glasgow, and his father's occupation.
Mum still asks if I have been able to find out what became of her father.
Counless emails have lead to brickwalls.

Wishing you well.

Gail
