Find Ancestors

My great grandfather James Gardiner who married Susan McKenna in West Derby, Lancashire in 1877. Cannot trace him in death records and trying to find out his parents. Any information anyone? He was born in Liverpool and his children were William John and Charles.

When was he born please?
