At the moment I have a vague reference to a Hannah Green of Lancaster who married a Thomas Dean, originally of Hanley in 1868. I am trying to find more information about Hannah Green. Any help much appreciated.

So it looks likely that the marriage posted above can't be them. Where did you get Hannah's maiden name from?

The information provided by Ginny is certainly what I had been looking at as providing me with the link between Thomas Dean of Hanley and Hannah his wife of Lancaster. The tender age of Hannah at the marriage tends to suggest this probably isn't the right one. The 1881 census and 1891 census details provided by BatMans mum are the correct family. the 1891 census, which has so far eluded me provides a couple of unexpected surprises. Having looked at both Thomas Dean and Charles Corns, it is shaping up to be a large family gathering ....

My grand-fathers birth certificate has just arrived - it turns out Hannah was 'Price' - hadn't even come close to that one!

At least I know who I am trying to track down now! Must admit to being puzzled as I can find only one marriage reference - in Leeds! (Seems unlikely, but ....)

The 1881 census shows Hannah as being from 'Lancashire, Lancaster'. So I have a bit of a riddle to solve - How does a girl from 'Lancashire, Lancaster' get to meet a lad from Hanley, Staffordshire and have a brood the length and breadth of Lancashire?

Thanks for your help though - I wouldn't have got here otherwise!

there are 2 Thomas Dean's

this page gives an enquiry form. The details may show that Thomas was transferred to Leeds. At best it will give you his full police record and when and where he married

when you get the police records from the LRO you should get a wealth of info. The Thomas Dean (Police ref PL11/17) is your man.

Can't remember if you found him in 1861 but if not it was because he was serving with 15th Hussars. Born Hanley, Staffs,
Living Liverpool when joined police Apr 1872, removed from force 17-8-1896 as died 11-8-1896
married Leeds to mary (?) Hannah Price

from his police record Thomas Dean did indeed marry Hannah Price at St George's Leeds

son Thomas Henry Dean married Emma Wallace at Christ Church Waterloo, Crosby
