Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find details of my husbands grandparents marriage. She's Mary Ann Hoccom, born 1897 (I think) and he's Joseph Freer, although I might not be exact about his first name. The wedding would've been in the Aston or Birmingham area, probably around 1920/21. Many thanks for any help anyone can give.

Thanks for coming back so quickly, but unless she had two marriages, she definitely married a Freer. Perhaps she wasn't Mary, although I'm pretty sure. Can you find a Freer/Hoccom marriage with different first names?

Just a maybe but perhaps Mary Hoccom did not actually marry Mr Freer. They would not be the 1st couple to live together and produce children without going through a marriage ceremony.

I'm pretty sure this is her. Perhaps they never married, although they had 9 children of which my father in law is one of them! His memory isn't anything special, but I ought to be able to get access to his birth cert. Perhaps what I need to do is try and find the "groom" - Joseph Freer. My understanding is that he was unoffically adopted, probably in the 1890s again in the Birmingham area.

Thanks to Flick & Jonesey - these are definitely the Freer children, there are two more after the 1932 twins, but only the last one born in 1938 is still living.

Maybe Mary Ann married a Mr Moss in 1916, but later set up home with Mr Freer??

This could be him, which would make him about 27 when his first child was born in 1921. Do you have access to this 1911 census (I don't), I wonder if he's on there? I understand he may have a brother called David. The family myth is that both Freer brothers were fostered/adopted out, thanks.

yes Patricia on Mary 's transcript its Hoccam--but Hoccom on the side of the image for Joseph.
As you say not showing on free bmd which is rather unusuall.
