I started the Brereton link just above this and was curious, so I read these posts. My Brereton family were from Northwich, Cheshire, and John and Hannah lived in Angel Meadow (Nicholas Street) Manchester in 1841. John was a sawyer and died in 1847, the family descending to the depths of poverty including the workhouse in the 1850's. My ancestor John, son of the sawyer, did well and ran a hardware shop in Gravel Lane across the river. Charles Brereton just might be a relative. Did you get the marriage certificate, and if you did could you post the details?
Thanks,
Geoff
