Thanks Margaret,

That is a real possibility as this Farthing family seem to have been extremely large.

Thanks Selena,

That looks very possible. I will get a copy of this marriage cert and see if it is THE Frederick.

Can I say a big thank you to all you lovely people who have taken the time and trouble to help me in my search for Rose it is really appreciated.

Another thought. Could 2 Farthing brothers have married 2 Webb sisters accounting for those later births?

Could she have been born just before his marriage and registered with her mum's maiden name?

Its happened in my family and they got married just a bit too late!

Do you know who and when Frederick junior married?

I have had a thought.

Could it be that Frederick T Farthing who I thought was Rose's sibling was in fact her father?

Is could be the answer as Frederick T was born in 1892 so IF he was Rose's father he would have been 22 when she was born in 1914. But where is the record of her birth?

It was compulsory to register a birth from about 1875 ........... but I suppose some people risked the fine or whatever the punishment was!

Problem is .... what was she registered as?

Was it Rose, Lilian, Rose Lilian, or maybe even just Female?

She might not even have been born in the area if it was one of the daughters. They could have sent daughter away with Momma to keep her company and to return with a brand new "sister".

Many Grand Tours in the late 1800s were to camouflage just such mishaps!

Selena I am not sure about the Bosmere connection. I am wondering if this couple have the same surnames but are not the Ipswich lot.

Thanks for your thoughts Tracey, you are right anything is possible.

Would her birth have been registered? Perhaps not for some reason, I don't know. It certainly is a mystery.

Could it be that indeed an elder daughter had the child and the grandmother brought it up?

I have one in my partners family.... indeed her son is still unaware that his grandmother isn't who he thinks and is indeed his great grandmother!!

He has no idea his 'aunt' is indeed his grandmother!!! (his mother's elder 'sister')

There is nowt so strange as families....

(hoping she's explained the relationships right) :)

Seems Alice was still around having children 1919

Do you think the marriage and chldren 1914-1919 are correct?

I think you could have hit it on the head here Sylvia.

I have Rose's marriage cert for 23.5.1931. She is stated as being 17. Her father is given a Frederick Farthing. As you say, it is highly unlikely that Alice would have given birth to her at 49 years old. Perhaps Alice had died and Frederick remarried? Or did Frederick and a girlfriend?
Now what?
Selena you are right there certainly were a lot of Farthings in those days.

What a big family - seem to be some more children.

Births Sep 1914
Farthing Cyril H Webb Bosmere 4a 1918

Births Mar 1917
Farthing Freda M A Webb Bosmere 4a 1595

Births Sep 1919
Farthing Wilfrid H O Webb Bosmere 4a 1498

Bosmere is in Suffolk.

I'm still looking for Rose....

I am trying to find the birth for Rose Lilian Farthing born 1914 or thereabouts in either Tooting or Ipswich. He father was Frederick Farthing and her mother was Alice Farthing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
