Hi, i am trying to find the death of Jonathan Coward - in America.
He was born abt 1875 in Bradford England, left for America from Liverpool 1923 arrived in Philadelphia on the Haverford ship.

There are no Jonathan Coward's but 50 John Coward's only one born 1875:-

(which I assume is Indianna?)!!

Can't believe this. I have been searching for my GGrandfather's death in UK despite family legend that he left for USA.

I am a relative newcomer to GsR and this is the first time I have explored this option.

I am looking into the Coward family for my Partners Family - on his Mothers side.
It looks like Jonathan went to America with a Mrs Alice Sagar, - now the info i have found out looks like Alice was a Coward before she married a Joseph Sagar in 1900 in Doncaster - not sure if you knew or wanted that info.!!!!

Long time member of Genes but never used a Board before. My niece is descended from Jonathan - her great great grandfather. Just started this line and haven't had time to get what I've found onto the site as yet. Her great grandfather was Fred Coward who married Dorothy Lily Streader. Does anyone know anything about Fred? Seems he didn't stay married to Dorothy for long - was gone definitely by 1926. Any chance he also went to America? Have looked up Shipping on Find My Past but can't be sure. Also possibility he stayed in Yorkshire.

You could try a lookup at:

However, I don't know when social security was introduced for everyone - I think the older entries there are for folk getting other govt pensions.

You could try asking for a 1930 census lookup to see where he's living. The state he died in will have his d.cert, but it might not be old enough to be a public record.

To find out abt d.certs for any particular state, google cyndislist then look up the state, in particular the vital records/statistics section.

Since Fred is Jonathan's son it sort of makes sense to keep the family in this thread !

Yes it is Chrissie. His daughter Bessie, born 1920, told her daughter she thought her father had left her mother for another woman. I'm sending away for a few certificates trying to find her mother's death. Fred was born in the Dec quarter of 1897 in Burley in Wharfedale. Sending for that too as sometimes death index information seems to have their actual birth. I might be able to eliminate and thus save some money. I'll look up that shipping record too. Couldn't find anything to suggest he also went to America.
