I am looking for the Death of Slaney George Archer. He was born Q1 1890 in Bethnal Green.
I know he enlisted in the war in Oct 1915 ( army number 130198)and I know that he married Ethel Harman in Q4 1915.

I am having a hard time finding a death record for him.

Many thanks for any help.

If you don't have any other information about when he was last alive (say at one of his children's weddings etc) then it will be a very long trawl through the complete death index right up to about 1980ish
looking at every image in every qtr. of every year.

FreeBMD is only name searchable up to about the 1920's.

Is there any way I can find out if he died during the war???

FreeBMD dosn`t bring up any births either for a child named Archer MMN Harman anytime after 1915, searching all counties and districts. Did he die in the war?

Iv`e done a search of WW1 on the CWGC, will go back and check WW2.

You could check the Commonwealth War Graves site:-

www.cwgc.org

They have service personnel and also some civilian deaths.

Sorry, ignore my last post as the service number is different. I hadn't noticed you had given a service number at first.

I wonder if his name was Stanley and not Slaney as in the other records? The regimental number is correct.

Ancestry - Army service records, their quite badly damaged but you can make out a few bits of info.

The medal card says he was discharged due to sickness in 1917

Just that the other name you mention was his mums name

Lost for Words ;-)

Lost for Words ;-) Report 24 Aug 2008 23:03

That would explain the confusion when you look at the records you'll see Ethel has been written above so perhaps he gave his mum as next of kin then after he married he changed it to his wife.

Images should be with you now :-) Some are duplicates of the same sheet but you can piece bits together.

Just had a look and mother is crossed out then wife written.
