Hi Penny

My husband's g g grandparents, Richard Jordan (born c1799) and his wife Ann Jordan (born c1800, single name Humphris) disappeared off the face of the earth after the 1851 census.

They lived in Bourtenfields farm, township of Cropredy, Hamlet of Great Bourton, Parish of Cropredy, county of Oxford (according to an 1842 survey map!) and we have a lead that Richard died in 1855 but haven't been able to find proof.

The best time for a search could search either side of 1855.

We have a lot of info on his property and the sale of the property, but after the sale the sons left England and Richard, Ann and daughters Jane, Harriet, Elizabeth, Susan and Ann disappeared.

If you have a few minutes I would be very grateful if you could check the parish records for the area, although they may have left the area after the sale of the farm. All the normal searches so far have proved negative but I haven't been able to check the parish records.

Many thanks

Hello Penny,

Many thanks for your kind offer! You may remember you gave me some very helpful advice re OFHS when l was tracing the Salmoni family.

Lucy Salmoni married William Rouse, a herald painter, in St Clement's 1826 (Jackson’s Oxford Journal) By 1841 she had remarried and was living in Surrey. From subsequent census information, I believe the following Rouse children in Oxford Workhouse in 1841 were hers:

John Rouse c1828
Henry Rouse c1831
Louisa Rouse c1832
Mary Rouse c1834

I would be very grateful if you could check for their baptisms in the St Clement's registers.

Thank you.

Gillian

Hi Tom ...

No children at Marsh Baldon, but the OBI had the following (all offspring of Tatham and Ann COZENS):

Little Wittenham - 1807 - Eliza
Little Wittenham - 1809 - Sarah
Dorchester - 1812 - Elizabeth
Dorchester - 1814 - Ann
Dorchester - 1816 - Margaret
Dorchester - 1822 - Martha

(This is the only information given on the index - you would have to consult the PRs for full date and any other details.)

Hi Gerard ...

I searched the Waterperry baptisms 1587-1610, but this was the only GOM(M)(E) recorded:

02 FEB 1587 - John GOME (no parents recorded)

It looks like this John GOME married in 1625 (at Waterperry).

I had a quick check on the OBI, but there was no "suitable" Thomas.

I did find a marriage for a Thomas GOMM on the OMI - to Bridget ALCE.. in 1616 in Thame (Bridget's surname had a couple of fullstops after it - as I've written it, but don't know what this means!).

Hi Gillian ...

There was no sign of the children at St. Clements, but I did find a couple of them on the OBI at St. Ebbes:

AUG 1828 - John, s. William and Lucy
DEC 1831 - Henry, s. William and Lucy

However, no sign of Louisa or Mary at St. Ebbes.

Hi Trudy ...

AMBROSDEN:

This was the only HADLAND baptism between 1830-1840 (inc.):

1841 - William Henry HADLAND (sorry, don't seem to have made a note of the parents)

There were no burials for the same period.

GREAT HASELEY:

These were the only two HADLAND baptisms in the entire PRs:

04 OCT 1827 - Sarah Anne HADLAND, d. John and Sarah, farmer, Latchford
18 DEC 1831 - Emma Amelia HADLAND, d. John and Sarah, farmer, Latchford

There were no burials.
