I didn't know they were still on th go Lisa as they weren't in the yellow pages last time I looked. Mind you, they probably don't have to advertise cos there won't be a shortage of business LOL

Probably telling you something you know already but, Hull register office don't accept enquiries over the phone now. You have to send in the form with a cheque

no i didn't lnow that about hull reg office, i am still wondering if this is the correct vera as i have heard it be mentioned she had a sister a lot younger than her that was called elsie, and i can't seem to find this listed. so confusing, i do know james died before 1970 and vera is still alive

yes that was quite funny, do you think the above vera could be the wrong one, it seems strange but i expected her mother to have a foriegn name as i was told long ago that vera was half spanish, and to be honest i still have that med look so that does seem to be true but maybe its further back than i thought

Lisa

Lisa Report 17 Sep 2008 14:38

thanks from that it looks like its the right one maybe i might get somewhere now

}((((*> Jeanette The Haddock <*)))){

}((((*> Jeanette The Haddock <*)))){ Report 17 Sep 2008 14:46

Yes, that looks better doesn't it. There was only one other Vera Edgar and that birth took place in York in 1902.

Maybe the Spanish connection is further back but, don't forget, foreigners often changed their surnames to something English to fit in. I'm not sure when you had start doing it by deed poll but I'm almost sure it wasn't in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

I'm just wondering if Vera's birth would be in the parish registers or if it would be too late. I'm hopefully off to Beverley in the next fortnight or so, so I could take a look if you like

Lisa

Lisa Report 17 Sep 2008 14:56

yes that would be great if you could, it might be easier for you if you email me through the site if you find anything and yes i see what you mean about the name change but i suppose it could be emma s mother that was spanish or maybe its just all wrong,thanks lisa
