Thank you so much hobbity , I think that it is the same Brittain , and WHITELY Tyne and Wera has been taken as Whitby yorks, I guess an interpretation error .

I am trying to order Jane eb and Mabel oxley (her youngest daughters birth cert so I can go further. But phones are too busy and online also.

Jane had three younger children born I think 1901 Joe 1902 Stanley (bachelor) and 1903 Mabel(my grandmother)(found her birth record). But will have to wait for 1911 census to become available.

Am Interested to know what became of her husband John between 1895 and 1901.

Father...John...Coal miner...b.Seaton Sluice.
Wife...Jane...b.Billingham.
Son...Stanley G...b.Durham, Hebburn.
All other children too young for work and listed as son of John, but Stanley G doesn't seem right does it, maybe he was Johns brother and lodged with them. It doesn't have a job listed for him either.
They lived at 1 Duke Street, Whitley, Monkseaton, Northumberland.

Hoobity Report 29 Sep 2008 18:06

I have checked the actual image for the 1901 census and it is def Yorkshire, all of them born there except Jane G? who is born Billington could be Billingham and Ethel who is born Cullercoates which is next to Whitley Bay as it is very near to me so I know this.
We have to remember that the person taking the census could only put down the info provided by the person who told them that info, maybe whoever it was wanted it to look like they were born in Yorkshire and not Northumberland or they didn't see what difference it made, (god if only they knew, lol).
Again no-one is old enough to be in work and Jane is listed as a widow so not sure where any income is coming from.
Address is 31 Lincoln Street, Micklegate, York.

thanks again everyone
Hoobity
I was leaning toward Stanley G Oxley being John's bother and Stanley T and Joseph R being his sons
Otherwise Jane would have ended up with Three Stanleys and 2 Josephs!! lol. It is a funny coincidence that Stanley is Janes family (maiden name ) and is poss in Johns family Also
If Jane is listed as a widow in 1901 another family "mystery" as she had Stanley, Joseph and Mable Oxley after this 1901 1902 and 1903.
This is a recuring theme in my family Mabel Stanley Oxley had 5 children all surnamed Frost but no record of marriage .

RE the Yorkshire / Northumberland thing, what got me started thinking along those lines was that Ethel on this site was listed at Cullercoats Northumberland but Harold , and I think I other as Cullercoats Yorkshire
Alos Jane G I think is Jane E whose records sometimes show Billingham and sometimes Bedlington Colliery , which I am told are near one another.

Its all very interesting and thank you so much for your attention .

Thank you Rose for Nerudas middle name , another piece in the puzzle .

I'm not too sure where I might expect to find a Seaton Sluice birth registered. I know Seaton Sluice is in the par of Earsdon, but Earsdon is listed under both Tynemouth and Morpeth. However, looking up John Oxley 1851-61 in FreeBMD turns up nothing for Morpeth, and for Tynemouth:

Births Mar 1855 (>99%)
Oxley John Tynemouth 10b 151
Births Sep 1855 (>99%)
Oxley John Tynemouth 10b 97

In the census, there's another John pob=Wallsend (which is also in Tynemouth) with a similar age.
The DUR BT for Wallsend (image 654 of 739) has:
bp 30/9/1855 John Son of Richard and Mary Ann Oxley, Abode=Wallsend, Trade=Trimmer, JF Hodgson Curate

Although a March bp would have settled our problem much more clearly, I'm inclined to think John from Wallsend is the 1855q3 rego.

In 1901, Jane is listed as M=Married, not as a widow.

Just checked again the 1901 census and Jane is listed as Head but married, not sure where I got her as widowed now.

In 1901, did find a married John Oxley of the right age living away from his wife. However, on the downside, he's living 80 km away, and his landlady has given his pob as Knaresborough. He's also not working as a miner, but as a general labourer, although this is more neutral downsidewise.

Re the 1901 pobs: for Mona, the listing is Yorks, Whit[b|le]y St Pauls. I don't know the churches in either area, but I do note the parish on Hoobity's 1891 listing is "Cullercoats St Paul". The two younger children are just dittoed from Mona.

The two older sons can also be found in 1901 at Adel cum Eccup, Yorks:
Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 4060; Folio: 34; Page: 5.

I also took a more detailed look at BMD entries.

Re Jane's bro Ralph, whom Boobity found 1871/81:

Births Mar 1866 (>99%)
STANLEY Jane E B Morpeth 10b 319
Births Dec 1868 (>99%)
STANLEY Ralph Britton Morpeth 10b 308

However, it looks like Ralph has a recycled name:

Births Dec 1861 (>99%)
STANLEY Ralph Britten Tynemouth 10b 173
Deaths Mar 1868 (>99%)
Stanley Ralph Briton 6 Morpeth 10b 204

I also came across the following family, who have similar names, but no other connection that I know of:

Births Mar 1858 (>99%)
Stanley Thomas Brittain Tynemouth 10b 146
Local: LBN16/321

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
