i found eliza mary jane russell on the 1891 census she was born in 1890 beer devon her parents were robert russell & eliza searle
they had one other son [my grandfather , william russell b beer 1879]
i am trying to trace a poss marr for eliza mary jane russell
i believe from word of mouth she was married in devon sometime 1913 - 1923 in beer devon
i have searched free bmd also marr on find my past .com does not have the 1901 census for beer anyone willing to look that up please
she would have been 11 or 12 then and poss living with her stepmother as her mother eliza died in dec 1891
her name was julia wilkins
any info appreciaated

Possible marriage as she was known as Mary on both the census records 1891 & 1901

As her mother died in 1891, when she was still an infant, but her father didn't remarry until 1897 perhaps her aunt & uncle offered to take her in.

As Robert was probably away at sea for most of the year he would have been unable to look after a young child on his own.

The marriage record lists him as George N. Pulman...assuming that he was born in the area, this may be him. But, of course, you will need the marriage cert. to confirm.

This is weird....George and his brother seem to have been registered on the census twice. Once as visitors, as above, and again with their parents and other siblings.


I wonder if their parents misunderstood the instructions and added them even though they were both away visiting John Maess and family?
