Alice stated on the 1901 census that she was born in Clerkenwell and Camberwell is the other side of the river so I do not think it is the right one.

Thank you for replying. I will google West Ham Parishes see if anything comes up, I have no idea where to look, just want to try anything.

Hi,

I am still looking for Rose Collins birth. I have sent for Rose Florence Collins, West Ham1894 which is not the one.

There are no other births on Freeebmd that I can try. It just seems strange that her birth is not there as her mother registered her sister in 1891.

Please can someone tell me if there is anywhere else I can try. How can I find which parishes there were in West Ham? Somebody has already looked in one Parish and there are no Collins listed.

I shall be most grateful for help as I have already hit a brick wall with finding her mother.

Hi, Everybody that have been helping me find Rose Collins.
Just thought I'd give an update. Still haven't found Rose's birth in West Ham but found her sister Ethel and the fathers name and occupation are blank, seems her mother Alice Collins had 2 children out of wedlock.
Rose must have been embarrassed and used her grandfathers name
when she married.

Been hunting Rose's mother Alice Collins born Clerkenwell abt 1860 not had any luck so far. She is on 1901 census, seen an Alice Collins on 1891 census in West Ham think it may be the same person although 1891 census says she was born in Holborn and 1901 census says she was born Clerkenwell. Finding her birth, hope it will lead me to her father Henry Collins!! Snapdragon gave me details on an Alice Collins 1861 census born 1859 clerkenwell living in Islington but I haven't been able to find her on 1871 or 1881 census.

If there is anybody that can help I would be most grateful, feel as if Ive come to a brick wall.

My great x grandad did that to me, his mariage cert had him as George Henry Moore, after 2 failed attempts at getting his birth cert I got lucky 3rd time, he was infact just George and added the Henry (his fathers name) at a later date!

Thank you for finding death of a Henry Collins in W.Ham, The year does seem to fit in as Alice was shown as a widow in 1901 and she re-married in June 1901.

when they changed names.

I have a couple of birth certs where there is no second christian name registered altho they adde one to later records, Maybe Rose liked Constance more than Florence!!

I have Rose Collins and John Marks marriage certificate and it gives Henry Collins as her father, I ordered a copy of Rose Constance Collins birth certificate as it was the only one I could find on BMD. The
father was Henry Collins so I followed this
line. I have since found that her mother was Alice and they came from East London side.

I will order the marriage cert. I have found for Rose's mothers second marriage, Alice Collins in 1901 and as you say it will give me her fathers name. I can then look for the marriage of Alice ? and Henry Collins to see where it leads me.

It just seems strange that I cannot find Rose's birth in West Ham abt 1894/5.
There are 2 births for an Ethel Collins in Poplar and I could try that lead if all else
fails.

her marriage cert should give her fathers name so her parents marriage can be looked for

It is possible that her father married Alice after Susan, but before the 1901 census. Susan may have died prior to the 1901 census. Or was there a divorce??

Hi, I have sent for this birth certificate but it is not the correct one.as the mother is Susan and should be Alice.
On the 1901 census she is living in West Ham with her mother Alice Collins and a sibling.
It is a mystery to me why I cannot see her birth on BMD.
I thought I would leave her birth alone for the time being as I do not seem to be getting anywhere and look up her death.
