hello while serching the 1851 census for my ancestor's (robert glister's father john glister born 1784 norfolk the census revealed a mystery, i know of the children on the census elizabeth and john but what was the mystery is pamela glister? there is no record of her after that and the 1861 census shows a emily glister (later become's emily bartell) born the same year to same family is it possible that the family changed her name and if so why? would apperciate some help, thankyou best regards, genevieve. |

You may find that the name was simply misheard on the 1851, and is correct in 1861......... I have the same in one of families....... down as Edward in 1841, but pretty sure he is actually Frederick..... I suppose Ed...Fred....easily done, |

hello jim, the 1871 record u found was the record u found in southwark christchurch? and she was a laundress? what i dont understand is that record says emily? as i originally thought but then pamela came up and has thrown my tree up in the air and completely confused me why would her name have been changed if it was? thankyou, regards, genevieve. |

The 1871 image for Emila does actually show as Pamila and she is in the Smallburgh registration district which could match the death in 1872 |

hello glitter baby, i must have looked at wrong census as i found one with an emily glister aged 23 as a servant, i just cant get my head round why they would have changed her name if its her, and why isnt it on her marriage cert that her name is pamila/pamela? the emily glister ive got married a henry bartell in 1873 and had 6 children including my great grandmother amelia bartell, thankyou, best regards genevieve. |

hi jim yes my emily was born in norwich, could it be possible emily was adopted by sarah and robert glister? as she isnt on the 1851 yet she was born around 1848? and appears on the 1861 census as 11 years old? but pamela is on the 1851 census as 1 year old and disappears off the 1861?? could it be she unfortunatly passed away young? and they adopted emily??? the pamila/amila you found, that u thought might be emily, couldnt be her as she died in 1872, when emily married in 1873 and then goes on to still be on the 1901?? this is all a bit odd and i dont have a clue what happened?? i can only hope this mystery will be unravelled, thankyou, regards, genevieve. |
