Find Ancestors

Hello,

I have a marriage certificate dated 02.11.1884 between Robert William Roberts and Elizabeth Williams. Robert is 23 and Elizabeth 18.

I have yet to find their birth references; and have yet to be able to find them with both parents on the census.'

Their fathers' details are Robert Lewis Roberts (occupation Tailor) and Thomas Williams (occupation Labie?) and have not been able to find them as children on the census'.

I would be very grateful if anyone can please help me.

The occupation for Thomas is hard to decipher. The first letter could be a letter 'L' or 'F' then it could be 'abie' or 'ubic', so it could be 'Labie', Fabie, Lubic, Lubie - it could be labourer but there are not enough letters for that word.

Where are they from?

have you found them on a later census to establish their respective places of birth?

Robert is from Wales (Born in Anglesey area) and Elizabeth is from Liverpool.

I have found them both on the 1891 census, but am struggling to find them both on the 1871 census when they would have been 8 and 3 yrs old respectively. Have not found them on the 1881 census neither.

As I have not been able to find them on earlier census' than 1891, it is hard to know if there were other siblings.

I think this is them in 1901? Will search back now

Not sure on 1851 for Robert Snr, there's a few Rober Roberts from Angelsey born in or around 1832. The family may well have been Welsh speaking, being from the North, particularly Angelsey.

I will have a look for Elizabeth now.

You have your work cut out for you Rachel, looking for WIlliams and Roberts familes in and around Wales will give you millions of results, just had a look at BMD records and let's just say there are a fair few Elizabeth Williams' born in Liverpool in 1865-1867...

Can someone trace this family back in 1871?

As Elizabeth married in 1884, the marriage certificate should note the father as deceased if that record with widowed Catherine is the right one.

Otherwise, I think Warehouseman could be classed as a Labourer.
