So is William Hawes Nodes the undertaker whose name was recorded in the cemetery records in 1851 as 'H Nodes' of Robert St, Chelsea? Not by William Nodes's address in the 1851 Census. In which case, who is the 'H Nodes' of Robert St? Doug in Melbourne, Australia |

David, I remember meeting William Nodes and his wife Marie, when I was a child. They were visiting my mother's cousin. I didn't know then that he was related to me. He was rather a jolly type of man, and not what you would expect an undertaker to be. I understand from my late mother that William Nodes went to Sandringham in 1952 to lay-out King George VI. They appear to have been a high-class firm of undertakers. Susan |

Catherine, the death of Mary Ann Powell Schrier is 26.1.1874 at Wades Place, Mile End Old Town. She was my gr.gr.grandmother, and I have the death certificate. The one you thought might be her is a sister-in-law. The Schrier family all seem to come from John Schrier c1780, Shadwell, and he was father to Samuel c1810 and father-in-law of Mary Ann Powell Schrier. I found an entry in the London Gazette which mentions Mary Ann's Will, where she has named her daughter Catherine Mary Ann Nodes and daughter Henrietta Elizabeth Robinson as executors in her will. Catherine being the wife of William Nodes and Henrietta the wife of Henry Arthur Robinson. Its amazing what you can find sometimes. Susan |

Janet, sometime ago you helped me with my Nodes family search. I have now found the marriage registration on the parish records for William Nodes and Catherine Mary Ann Schrier. They got married 30.12.1864 at the Parish Church of South Hackney. It shows the father of Catherine as Samuel Schrier, a rope manufacturer, and as he had been deceased in 1849, Catherine's brother Thomas Robinson Schrier was shown as a witness. So I am 100% certain that this Catherine who married William Nodes was the daughter of Samuel and not Jonathan. Susan |

Susan, if you think Catherine may have been mistaken with her father's name, I would be inclined to get her birth cert. I have included another vaguely interesting birth, maybe a relation? That name was bound to cause trouble! The problem is you need to contact gro first to get them to check the transcription, though it looks unreadable to me. This is a free service. will try to remember where to ask. |

Thanks everyone for helping me with the Nodes family. It has filled in some of the gaps. However, it has also posed a query. Ann of Green Gables says that Catherine Mary Ann Schrier was the daughter of Jonathan Schrier, and it was she who married William Nodes born c1842. |
