Can anyone help me with this one? I am trying to identify the parents of Elizabeth Veal (b abt. 1821 Richmond, Yorkshire) to link her to our tree. She married Robert Rucroft in 1850 ( Free BMD Marriages), and the Rucrofts ( Rycrofts) fall within our tree from a separate line.
I have looked on Ancestry and Familysearch but she seems to be absent ( unless I have missed her somehow). I am interested in finding her parents because an Alice Veal visited her and Robert in the 1851 census, and this Alice is a key member of our tree. I am thinking this may be her mother.
Regards,
Peter ( Myra's son helping her build our tree)

Thanks Libby4, Looks like the right Elizabeth, working for the Yeomann Family in Richmond. Interestingly, James Ruecroft is present and may be the brother? of her future husband. Her parents still elude me though.
Peter.

Sorry Ann of GG,
Her parents would be a Veal's ( or Veale's) as she was Elizabeth Veal when she was born in about 1821 in Barton on Swale, Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Peter.

Thank you Polly Poppet,
The 1841 reference to Alice is correct. ( I can't find her maiden name either). This is the family I am trying to add Elizabeth Veal to, so far without success. It is annoying, that born c. 1821, she is working as a servant in Richmond in the 1841 census. Married in 1850 to Robert Rucroft, so she is listed as Elizabeth Rucroft in subsequent 1851,1861 census', and therefore no reference to her parentage available there. Except for the fact that an Alice aged 55 is visiting the newlyweds in 1851 census. The IGI has no reference to her baptism and I cannot find any matches in the Ancestry searches. Would you know if the 1850 marriage record might have her parents listed on it?
Regards, Peter

I also note that Elizabeth has a child born in 1851 ( after census) and wonder if mother? Alice could be at their home for this reason in the 1851 census.

To confirm this you need to check Samuel in 1851
He should be listed as married but Alice will not be with him.

Just realised my 1841 is the same as Pollypoppet.s earlier post.
I will leave it as FMP is in a different format.

Thank you Christine for your data.
Unfortunately, I have all this data already, but I cannot tie Elizabeth Veal (b 1821) into it anywhere. It seems "almost" certain that she is a daughter of Samuel Veale ( Hudswell 1797), but any record of her birth or baptism just seems to be absent. It is also interesting to note that in 1891, this Elizabeth and her husband Robert Rucroft move from Richmond to live close to Samuel Veal (b1826) in Durham. It leads me to think that he may be her brother, and he is the son of Samuel 1797 and Alice.
Thanks again,
Peter

I looked not by name but by Elizabeth's place of birth at the whole village and Samuel and Alice were the only Veale family in Barton on Swale, Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Thought that narrowed down the odds a bit.

Thank you again Christine,
Barton on Swale is such a small village at that time it seems unlikely that Elizabeth could be bred from anyone else; as you say it certainly narrows the odds. I have just had a thought too: the earliest child I have for Samuel and Alice from the 1841 census is Samuel c.1825/6. Elizabeth is born in 1821, so I wonder what year Samuel and Alice were married? Samuel was baptised 4/07/1797.
Off to the searches again.
Regards,
Peter.
