Please has anyone any suggestions as to how I can find the Birth Record for my Gt.Gt. G'Ma Ellen McLean.
She was born in 1849, Edinburgh, Midlothian, according to the 1881 census.
On the 1871 census she is with her husband Alexander Rankin, but the places they were born are entered the wrong way round I think, as I am sure Alexander was born in Manchester..
I used all my credits on the Scotlands People site looking for her, to no avail!
In case, she was born in Liverpool, (as that was where her 1st child was born), I asked Liverpool Records to look for her Birth Record, but again, they could find nothing..
Her Death was on 15-12-1897, Age 48yrs in Stockport, Cheshire.
What can I do next please?

Welcome back Meryl. Sorry, I've no credits on Scotland's People either.

I suspect her surname might have multiple variations.

Hope somebody can help soon.

Best wishes

Thankyou Meg,
Oh I wasn't asking for credits :-) I have just absolutely exhausted every variant I can think of, just nothing is coming up. I really don't know what to do next..!
There's something very odd! No-one can find a Birth Record.
I have used every variant of mis-spelt name I can think of..and still there is no sign of them on any 1891 census either in Scotland or England. I even tried Canada as I know Ellen Jnr emigrated there so :-( ?
It looks like the family split up, but Alexander registered Ellen's death on the same day she died, well you would think that someone else would have if they had split up 6 years previously, so my gut feeling tells me they hadn't so..?
Oh well thankyou once again for your words of encouragement..
