Hi Anne
Looking at the information and the 1841 census I think Mary was either a single mother or she had married a Denton
Why it seems that Robert used the name Denton is a mystery unless they never married and because the rest of the family used Denton he just followed on.

As far as the marriage of ROBERT and LUCY is concerned I would be very surprised if they didn't marry as all the MESHER's were devout catholic church goers. Over here on the island all descendants were churchgoers too , although ROBERT was a convert. I'm not sure how to proceed any further about finding their marriage. Maybe they broke with tradition and just lived together after all.
