Did she ever mention any siblings? Could she have reduced her age on the marriage cert? My grandmother took 5 years off her age when she married |

It's possible that she was born elsewhere and the family moved to Gateshead when she was very young and as she grew older she assumed that was where she had been born. That happened on one of mine and it took me a while to track him down! |

Just had a thought. If you know she was born in Nov 1898 then it would be worth writing to the GRO and asking for a search. They search a 3 year period. Tell them what you know for sure and also what you believe to be the case and see if that brings a result. (It costs a little more and takes a while longer than normal applications and you do need to write in as you can't do this on line.) |

If you know her mother's maiden name it's definitely worth looking for her birth under that. My grandmother was born 1908 with no father on birth certificate but her marriage cert shows father's name - I've not managed to discover if he was her real father or not but she was born before her parents got married. Point is, unless you've got info to back it up, don't believe everything you see! |

Have you checked the electoral register in the village for Robert for the year that Margaret married? |
