Find Ancestors

Hello,

I am looking for my relation Thomas Swales in the census and I have found him in a few, and just looking for validation elsewhere. His place of birth seems to change frequently.

I posted help on here last week in regards to his marriage Isabella Stephenson. He married her in Billingham, County Durham in 1843, and the couple are living in Guisborough, Yorkshire in 1851. In 1861, although still married and still living in Guisborough, Yorkshire, he is living with his brother Hannibal Swales, and some of his neices and newphews who are children of his brother Francis.

I am not sure if I have found him in 1871 or 1891 but in 1894 he is living in Guisborough, Yorkshire again (informant on a certificate). It would seem he was in the Clifton Asylum by 1901 and died there in 1909. I beleive this may be him in 1881 with a second wife.

What do people think? Can you help me find after 1861 when he with his brother Hannibal? I am trying to link him between 1861 and his registration in 1894 when he was informant for certificate. I can't find his marriage to Charlotte (if this is the same Thomas Swales) to confirm his father from the marriage.

Thank you ... yes you found Francis and Hannibal's baptism and their parents marriage. Yes from what I remember you have found Thomas in 1851. I hadn't thought the Barnsley marriage would relate with it being quite far from Guisborough, but then again, there arn't any other options ... Can anyspot him in 1871/1891 ... perhaps he is living in Barnsley there. That is if my 1901 Asylum Theory is correct!

RE 1863 Marriage ... that must be another couple. Unless Thomas married a second lady with the same name. He was definitley married in 1843 as I have a copy of the origonal certificate.

Nudge ... can anyone see Thomas in 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901?

Oh this is interesting! Thank you; so I wonder who little William and Christiana Swales' mother is?! I have found them both on teesvalley-indexes, to see if their parents are either Thomas and Charlotte or Thomas and Isabella?! Can I ask where the family were living in 1871?!

Wow, thank you for this help! Yes, it would cost, but I think I need to validate this. So, with all of your help, it would seem that Thomas and Isabella's marriage ended ... whether through seperation and then her death, and then he set up again with another woman named Charlotte. I have also emailed Barnsley over the 1886 marriage to her.

Thank you for the information on Stockton Street. Are you able to see the family in 1891 and 1901 just to confirm I didn't go on the wrong track. Sometimes this genealogy can get a little confusing!
