Hi Glitter Baby, thank you for your help, yes this may be a link, i will send off for the cert and see if the father of Ellen is Charles James Clark.

I am having to search sideways so to speak to find Benjamin CLARKs siblings as i cannot find proof of him but we know he had sister Nellie CLARK who married George (do not know surname) and they had a daughter Carol. He also had a sister Mary CLARK who married Mick ( do not know surname) and Charles (Charlie(two wives) CLARK who could have married a Winnie. We know they live in the Bethnal Green area of London. If i can find the siblings and link them i hopefully can find Benjamin. The problem i am having with him is we can find nothing that definaely matches. We have birthdate of 17 August 1907 this was on the death certificate withe the middle name of Arthur ( not sure if this is correct) On his childrens birth and marriage certs hes middle name is either Arthur or Thomas, on the birth cert that i got that matches the nearest it says Ben William ! Ww know form his marriage certificate his father is Charles James Clark the residence of the bride and groom was Antill Road . So i am just trying to find the four siblings and find a common link. wish me luck ! If you can help thats great .

don't forget that the birth date on the death certificate may be wrong .... so don't treat it as set in concrete!

Information given on a death certificate is only that which is known to the informant ...... and they may not know the truth.

Thus the name of the deceased may be wrong or incorrect, the date of birth and age may be wrong, marital status may be wrong, etc etc


It all depends on what the deceased told the people around him/her.

Hi, i have Benjmins war service record, this says birth date 17/8/1907 Tottenham, do you think that he would have had to have shown proof of who he was like his birht certificate, this also states that his name was Benjamin, no midldle name shown and the only birth certificate that seems to fit says Ben William. So confused.

Does anyone know where i could go to actually look through any birth or christning records perhaps or where i can find out more about the address area where we know he was at time of his marriage ? Bethnal Green

As to proof of age etc., when he joined up....I don't think they needed to...as a lot of youngsters joined up and lied about their ages.

I looked for him on the 1911 census stating Benjamin Clark 1907 + - 1 born Tottenham and used names variants.It came up with

I then used the other people in the household option

Alfred 1904
Charles 1881
Charles 1902

Charlott 1901
Frederick 1911 ( 2 months)
Nellie 1902.
Rosie 1908
William 1880.
William 1907

All living Edmonton district. Perhaps someone with a sub to Findmypast will check to see who belongs to who.

Thank you Vera, i wll look into all of these, and all the info. even if they are not our CLarks at least i will be able to cross them off, perhaps there were other brothers and sisters for Benjamin but perhaps they were not know to any of my living Clarks ( well the ones who are able or even want to remember ! )

Where would i be able to go and search records for Bethanl Green ? is it the records office ?

Hi not sure when Benjamins siblings were born we know Charlie was older than Benjamin and we would assume that they were all born around say 1900 -1920 would you think ?
