Hi I am trying to identify the correct Cecilia Mcgowan for my tree.
My great grandfather Edward Hinnighan (can be spelt various ways)married a Susannah Mcgowan but when she died in 1904 he married a Cecilia Mcgowan in 1906 I was under the impression they were sisters but now I am not sure. i thought Cecilia was born in 1873 (on 1881 as Ciscilia)which would make her 67 when she died in 1940 (if thats correct) but in 1901 she is aged 28 and in 1911 she is 29 so I am confused can anyone tell who she is with in 1901and is she 67 in1940 (Jan-Mar Durham SE

Jan the image for 1911 def says age 29 , it also says Edward and Cecillia married 12 yrs and have 3 children

Her brother is with them Robert McGowan age 44 single

Hi this why i am confused because one of the children is Catherine who was my grandmother (her mother died in 1904)
but according to 1881 census Robert and Cecilia should be older , and cecilia did not get married until 1906, do you think i have the right family from the 1881?

I take it that you haven't looked at the 1911 image, to verify the age and birthplace for Cecilia?

I think i will have to try and trace Edwards death to see if his age ties up with 1901 and 1911

It might just be a coincidence but in 1881 Ciscila McGowan father Robert 1830 Ireland is a tin smith

Susans father John 1830 Elvet Durham is also a tinsmith
