Edward Report 10 Jan 2010 15:46

Hi, i am trying to find relatives of Harry Searle born 1894 @ Well Street, Callington. I believe he was the youngest of a large family.
His father was Edward Searle married to Elizabeth Oates. Some of his siblings were-: Bessie born c1872,Frederick born c1875, William born c1876,Florence born c1877, Edward born c1882, Ethel born c1888 & Margaret born c1891, there were several more but have no info. Are there any relatives out there. I think his faher was a fisherman.

Couldn't make it out on the 1901 so checked it on the 1891. More like Fruit Dealer on the 1901
In 1881 he is a labourer and I'm not sure if this is the 1911 or not.

It says Limpet Dealer GREEN

Astra

Astra Report 10 Jan 2010 16:17

The original image on the 1911 says that Edward had 21 children only 8 of which are living. And I queried it because of William's age but on the original he is down as 33 not 23 which is about right.

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 10 Jan 2010 16:19

Right. Fruit. Would make sense with the stats being "Green".
Maureen

Mel-what's a limpet??

Astra

Astra Report 10 Jan 2010 16:20

Still looks more like Fruit to me but the GREEN (whatever it means) written across it obscures much of it.

Astra

Astra Report 10 Jan 2010 16:21

A limpet is a very chewy shellfish which attach themselves to rocks and quaysides. They are devils to get off.

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 10 Jan 2010 16:38

The "Green" like the "Baker" are from the statisticians tally after the census. That's really what it was for!
So fruit makes sense.
Now I want to taste a limpet. Anything like mussels??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limpet

It has pics of them.

Human use
Larger limpet species are, or were historically, cooked and eaten in many different parts of the world. For example, in Hawaii, limpets (Cellana species) are commonly known as ‘opihi,[3] and are considered a delicacy; the meat sells for $30-40 a pound (454g). In Portugal, limpets are known as lapas and are also considered to be a delicacy. Within Gaelic Scotland, a limpet is known as a 'báirnach', and Martin Martin recorded (on Jura) limpets being boiled to use in substitute of breast milk.
