Thought I had narrowed it down as Sarah remarried in1905 but didn't find Robert's death between 1891-1905 in Glasgow......do you know if he also remarried?

Aileen

Aileen Report 23 Jan 2010 23:38

Ah they were divorced in 1899......a rare event in those days

Jean

Jean Report 23 Jan 2010 23:40

I'm sorry Aileen ,
I don't know if did re marry , I haven't found him in 1901,
Thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated.
Jean

Just seen your mention of divorce, that's unusual for those times isn't it?
Where did you find that ?

Aileen

Aileen Report 23 Jan 2010 23:45

If you look at a marriage record on ScotlandsPeople you may see in red RCE
this means that there has been something added to one of the records....mostly divorces for marriage records, inquest results for deaths and paternity for births

Thanks for that information , must have a look when I get more credits,

This looks very promising going by occupation , I never thought of him remarrying, the son John aged 11 would fit too, John is on the 1891 aged 1 .

Yes it was the son John that made me think it may well be the family and also the daughter called Sarah.
Still not sure of his death though just to many to look at. Might try to find the marriage but not tonight

Aileen Report 24 Jan 2010 01:01

Ok just couldn't leave it....

1899 STEVENSON ROBERT GARDNER MAGGIE BLYTHSWOOD GLASGOW/LANARK

Maggie died 1917 and was a widow so Robert died sometime between 1901-1917...if it was Glasgow that gives 5 options

Aileen

Aileen Report 24 Jan 2010 01:24

Found it......

1916 STEVENSON ROBERT M 57 GARNGADHILL GLASGOW CITY/LANARK

Aileen,
Thank you so much for finding the marriage and deaths for Robert and his second wife Maggie, I wonder if the children Sarah and Archiebald on the 1901 census were Robert and Sarah's or Robert and Maggie's,
I will check next week on Scotland's people, Thank you once again,

best wishes
Jean

Aileen Report 24 Jan 2010 11:29

Sarah is given as 9yrs old on the 1901 census and Archibald as 6yrs. I think they would both be Sarah's children.

Do you want the details from the marriage and death certs?

Jean
