Lucky you...I've discovered a relative (distant) who moved to Torronto in 1907. I was grandson of Louisa Meakin/Roose., called William Roose.

I'm in th UK and its pretty cold here.

I've only been doing this for a few months and really enjoying it.

I'm in God's country, Canada.

Charlotte Report 1 Feb 2010 16:54

- 20 ....where are you based?

Thanks for that info...its a shame the half siblings are so difficult to trace, as that'd be quite interesting.

need to digest this with a cuppa

OK, I'm back. (A heck of a thing when you realize there's no milk in the house and you have to go out and buy some when the temperature is -20.)

Siblings of Louisa Meakin:

Eliza, born 6 Jul. 1800, Ashbourne, no husband given but a daughter Barbara Meakin born 26 Aug. 1821, (Another illegitimate one!) Barbara married William Beaumont. 8 children.

George, born 19 July 1807, Ashbourne. No spouse or children given.

Solomon, born 15 Oct. 1809, Ashbourne, died 21 May 1899, Oaks Green, Sudbury, Devonshire. No marriage given but says 1841 census shows him with wife Sarah and children George 7, Sarah 5, Charles 3 and John 1. Also Ann Bickerton, 71, living with them. Solomon is a school master. 1851 census shows wife Sarah and children George 16, Sarah Ann 14, Charles 12 and John (no age given) Also with them is father-in-law John Bickerton. So looks like Solomon's wife was Sarah Bickerton.

James born 12 Dec. 1811. No wife or children given. On 1841 census was living with parents and sister Eliza.

Thank you. much appreciated

MargaretM Report 1 Feb 2010 14:28

Yes it does but I don't have time to list them now, I'm on my way out. Can do it when I return.

Ok, thanks - thats a shame. I have names of her children from her marriage to George.
Does the tree show marriages from Louisa's siblings?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 1 Feb 2010 14:19

No, the tree on Ancestry doesn't list any children of Louisa, just her marriage. I don't think there's much chance of finding out who Rachel's father was.

Charlotte

Charlotte Report 1 Feb 2010 14:11

Thanks for that. I'm starting to input my tree on Ancestry as well, but haven't paid the membership - it very expensive.

Is there any record of Louisa's daughter Rachel - who the father may be?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 1 Feb 2010 14:07

There's a tree on Ancestry that has your Louisa, born 23 Nov. 1804, Ashbourne, married George Roose 27 March, 1826. Her parents were Thomas Meakin (1771-1846) and Martha Deddick (1777-1843). Siblings Eliza 1800, George 1807, Solomon 1809 and James 1811.

Looking at the original of that 41 census I think his name is Jesse not Jope. The ss is written in the old way as fs.

Charlotte

Charlotte Report 1 Feb 2010 13:37

Am I right in thinking Jope and Mary are parents of Joseph. That makes him born 1816...how is he connectedto Louisa, he would be 11 as her father? is it possible of writing error?

Thank you. I wonder if there's a way of finding out Rachel Meakins Fathers name? And of siblings/parents of Louisa Meakin

Distance between Leek Staffordshire & Ashbourne Derbshire is approx
Distance: 15.5 miles

Could these be a possibility?
