Howard 'May' is often the diminutive of Mary ( I have an auntie May who was actually Mary on birth cert ) If you are sure of Joyces approx birth then that is the only one that fits.

You will need to buy the marriage cert of William and Agnes .

to recap Howard as you seem to be struggling

Joyce and William's birth certs will confirm their mum and dads names , ie William Stockdale and Agnes Mary Lax...THEIR marriage cert will give you the names of their fathers ( obtain cert from GRO )

To be absolutely sure of census details before then you will need the details from the marriage cert of fathers, full name and occupations.
