Hi Tracy,

This is the site you will need to look at for the scottish records. And yes you will have to pay.

Tracy, Are you able to put your grandmother's information on your thread. If not if you click on my name and send me a message I can look for you. However if you will be searching for a lot of your information in Scotland it might be beneficial for you to buy some credits with the Scotlands People site.

Hi Tracy, just received your PM. For some strange reason I am no longer getting the white envelope notification of a message on my screen.

Not your fault. GR glitch I think.

I will have a look at your search this evening. Do you wish me to put the results on this thread. That way others will be able to help you as well. And you will have all your info in the same place.

Will post all the info I find about Cogill name. It can be removed if you wish. There does not seem to be much available. This is from the Scotlands People site.

Not doing any good with Scotland. Tried England and found this marriage. Fits your information. My best advice would be to contact Derek on his Derbyshire thread. I think he does Yorkshire lookups as well.

Here is his thread

There is also the possibility the names were spelt Coghill or Cowgill. Those names come up in searches. There are quite a few possibilities in the Yorkshire area on the census but none of them fit the William, Jane, Mary criteria.

Thanks for that its the Scottish births i am struggling with and the scottish census i cant find them existing even though it cleARLY STATES THE the scottish link i did even have a little look a while ago i think at the irish poss but am no nonger able to check but it is more consistantly likely to be the scots link.... Any ideas? Thanks

Catherine

Catherine Report 22 May 2011 21:16

Have rechecked the census and whilst the transcription says Ireland the actual census says Scotland. I have found William's birth. The parents were not married at the time and it is very difficult to make out the mother's name. It is likely that Mary was registered with the mother's maiden name. If I work it out I will get back to you.

Hello Lisa,

You have added on to an old thread so I will suggest a couple of things to you to help you along.

You can try putting the names you are researching into the Search Trees box above (in the dark green bar) to see if anyone else on this site has them in their tree. If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owner.

You could also try posting your message on the Find Living relatives board.

Hope this helps. Cynthia.
