Horace was born New Jersey 1906/1907 according to 1910 census.

"John B Cuttingh, head, 29, born England, butcher, immigrated 1904"

I don't have access to the American records, I'm just going on what others have said, and the fact that there are no births for Horace in England, so they can't have emigrated in 1909.

Dear David,
Hello, before you actually look at the census it says that they arrived in 1909?

I have to go now, thankyou also for your help.

I think i am getting somewhere with this family,

Thanks to all for your valuable help MFM

Elliot Report 16 Apr 2010 14:02

That looks like them Margaret - it's got the middle names too.

I think we're looking for an emigration in 1904, as that is what it says on the census, so perhaps that emigration you have found is not quite right, MFM.

Dear Margaret,

I think you may be right,i will have a look at that one.

Thankyou so much. MFM

Dear David,
Hello, i have found a Annie Cottingham going to the USA in 1905 to visit ..................................it said freind John Cottingham, which i think is actually John her husband.I cannot find their births yet.

I will look on the 1910 US census as i have found Annie,Horace and Edna arriving in the UK in 1911.

Thanks for your time MFM

I think this might be them on the 1910 census in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The writing is horrible , last name was transcribed Cuttingh, (someone has added a correction making it Cattington.). Edna is transcribed Edward but she's a daughter.
John B Cuttingh, head, 29, born England, butcher, immigrated 1904
Anna, wife, 24, born England
Horace E., son, 3, born New Jersey
Edward B., dau, 9 months, born New Jersey

I'm guessing you have these as well?

Name: Horace Edward Cottingham
Birth Date: 6 Aug 1906
Death Registration Month/Year: Apr 1987
Age at death (estimated): 80
Registration district: New Forest
Inferred County: Hampshire, New Forest
Volume: 20
Page: 277

Name: Edna B Cottingham
Death Registration Month/Year: 1933
Age at death (estimated): 23
Registration district: Birkenhead
Inferred County: Cheshire
Volume: 8a
Page: 809

There are no Horace Cottingham births in England in the period we are looking at. There are no matching records for Edna either.

They therefore must have emigrated between 1903 and 1906. I do not have access to those records, so hopefully someone else may be able to help.

Dear David,
At the moment i am thinking that Horace Edward John Cottingham is the son of John and Annie because of the middle names are first names of John brn 1880 brothers.

If i could find Edna's and Horaces births that would help heaps.

Thanks for your input MFM

Elliot Report 16 Apr 2010 11:47

I think Horace and Edna must have been born in America, as there are no births that match.

Is this Horace's marriage?

Name: Horace E J Cottingham
Spouse Surname: Golding
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1931
Registration district: Southampton
Registration county (inferred): Hampshire
Volume Number: 2c
Page Number: 158
Find Spouse: Elsie M Golding

MFM,
There are a lot of Cottinghams going to America and Canada, but a lot with no initials.....certainly doesn't help research. Hopefully someone who has access to the worldwide Ancestry should be able to help, with the births and deaths etc. Good Luck.

Yes Vera,thats the marriage,

Horace i think was brn 1906 as Horace Edward J Cottingham and Edna was brn 1910 according to her death details which say she was 23 in 1933.

Yes Vera John was born 1880 Liverpool.

At the moment i think John may have died in the USA .It would be nice to find the whole family going to the USA though, and the kids births.

Thankyou for your input,

Best wishes MFM
