Find Ancestors

Hi I'm looking for family from Guernsey...

My Great grandfather was Ronald Short, founder of the Ron Short centre in Guernsey. I have been trying to find information on him and his wife's family but have not been able to find anything.

As far as I'm aware, he was born around 1911 in Dorset, and he married Christine Collas, from Guernsey, probably in the 1930s as this was when their daughters Marian (1938- my grandmother) and Jenny (c1942) were born.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find any records of Ronald Short or Christine Collas- this has been especially difficult as Christine was from Guernsey.

If anybody has any information about either the Shorts or the Collas family, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you very much for the post. As with before, I think that the Christine Collas born c1880 would really be too old to be my great-grandmother, as my grandmother was born in 1938.....

If there was any possibility of there being a later Christine, or perhaps a marriage to Ronald Short, that would be amazing :)

Unfortunately I don't have a marriage certificate :/ I don't really have much information on the family sadly. Sorry about that

Telephone (01481) 725277. Office Hours 9.00 a.m.to 5.00 p.m.

They charge £ 5 for a full certificate or £ 3 for a short certificate. A search fee of £ 5 has recently been introduced.

If you are in Guernsey, this charge can be alleviated as there is public access to the Strong Room between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for a nominal £1.00 charge and details can be copied from their records.

The Priaulx Library also have the indices on microfilm.

Note: Guernsey Marriages were not subject to Civil Registration until 1919 - so the coverage is incomplete prior to that date. Go to the Parish Registers instead

Unfortunately there is no Ronald Short listed as being born in Dorset until the 1920's.

As far as I'm aware, Ronald Short was born earlier than the 1920s, probably around 1910 but I guess it is a possibility....

I contacted the Ron Short Centre in Guernsey but unfortunately they had no information on him :/
