Thank you Maureen and Vera. I have been told her mother's name was Ann but strange she is not there. Is Tom specified as the father or is that an assumption please?

Maybe her mum died in childbirth.
Tom maybe was her dad.
He married in 1894 to Emma
1901 Hilda still with grandparents and thomas was in Baldersby,which is where he was in 1891.

Thomas had a sister Ann born Nunthorps Stokesley 1861 maybe she was Hildas mum.

You need to buy her birth cert to be sure of her mothers name.

The image of the census does NOT say that Tom is her father

It just says Gr-daur in the space for realtionship to Head


so I think it fair to say that it is an assumption by the transcriber based on the fact that her name follows Tom's, AND Richard and Hannah are obviously too old.


Incidentally, further info from the image:-

there was a daughter called Ann .......... but if she is Hilda's mother, then it means that Hilda was illegitimate, hence why there was no name on her marriage certificate

I was about to ask for the 1871 census as I had found Ann and Tom in IGI but now I would like to see if the 1861 for the Stokesley area shows any further children for Richard and Hannah between William 1852 and John 1859 please.
