would some one be so kind to do a marriage look up for me please, i have checked all the usual site and lancaster record office have checked there records but cant seem to find them! they are 0n the 1911 census with their 2 children living in lancaster elizabeth aged 9 and elsie aged 4 both born in lancaster

i am looking for isabella gates smith born 1878 scotforth lancashire and arthur edward williams born 1876 born luton arthur married his 2nd wife maud hassall (born 1878 stoke on trent) at bolton le sands in 1913

Is it possible that they did not in fact marry, but lived common law?


I have found her in 1901, as a servant living in Lancaster




Have you actually got the birth certificates of one or both children to prove that you are looking for the correct people?


That would be the first step.

Not seeing the childrens' births under Williams or Smith in Lancaster district.

she is my great grandfathers younger sister and i have done alot of research on him (his parents etc) so i know for sure it is isabella gates smith born scotforth (lancaster) father thomas born winmarleigh (preston area) and mother isabella jackson born overton, i think i have found her 1st marriage to john william pilkington at penworthem (preston) 1899 it's just the marriage to arthur williams i cant seem to find,

Where were her parents living in 1901?

It seems odd that she would marry in Preston having been born in Lancaster, unless the family moved away from Lancaster

Why wouldn't she have used her second name when marrying?
That's assuming that Smith actually married Pilkington

her family was originally from the preston area before they moved to lancaster, so they did move between the two

her family were oringinally from the preston area and they moved between the two over the years, her father lived in lancaster in 1901, im going to wind this up for now but i would like to thank everyone for their help .. much apprieciated!!!

looking again for isabella, and just re-reading my replies on here, cant believe i missed what you said about 2 of them being born scotforth same year!!!! the one i'm looking for her perants are thomas and isabella the other one her dad is james, on the 1901 census the isabella there could be either one!!!! so i think i should ditch the 1901 census for her(for time being anyway) but the online parish clerks have a marriage for an isabella smith to john william pilkington, in 1899 at penwortham preston, her father was born winmarleigh (preston) and it shows her father as thomas smith occupation as carpenter, which he did most of his life, the isabella gates smith on 1911 census is definately the same one
