Sure it was Canada and not Australia?
There's a tree on Ancestry that has him marrying in Australia in 1907 to a Florence A Rosslyn .

Easiest way to find anyone in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in WWI:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php
Since you don't know the names of the sons, it seems, the only thing to do is look at each image (there are 11 Treloar-s in total) to see whether a next of kin you recognize is named, or a place of birth is familiar. [edit - I looked at them all, and none seem likely]
edit again - urgh, when you said "the war", did you mean WWII??
I don't see the people from mgnv's 1901 household in the 1911 census, except for Ferdinand, aged 38, in Vancouver, with wife Juliette and no kids.

I think we need to work with fact and certificates rather than what people have said in the past. Your dad could have been told anything.....it doesnt make it fact
Have you got any certificates and have you thought about sending for the death certificate of Philip that I posted earlier?

Per mgnv's info, the four brothers (not including any Philip) were in BC in 1901 (and I can find only Ferdinand in 1911).
http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-23F8368/gbsearch/Births,Marriages,Deaths
I don't see any marriages in BC that can be matched to them.
This death could match William, shown in the 1901 as born in 1872:
William Treloar Place Powell River Reg. Number: 1946-09-009803 Date: 1946 7 22 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 73 Event: Death Microfilm #: B13191 (GSU # 2032423) Copy Available
but that's the only possible I see. BC is unusual for Canada in that death records are accessible up to 1989, so if they died there, the deaths would be in the search results.
At ancestry.ca, to which I don't subscribe, searching for surname Trel*r in case of mistranscription, there are William Trelor 1873 and his wife Fannie 1879, with children Harold Burnet Trelor 1901 Ames Arnold Trelor 1902 William Wilfred Trelor 1905 Haldo Green Trelor 1908 (Waldo, I'd guess) in Comox-Atlin, BC.
Groom Name: William Treloar Bride Name: Fanny Wilson Event Date: 1900 6 5 (Yr/Mo/Day) Event Place: Vancouver Reg. Number: 1900-09-047689 B.C. Archives Microfilm Number: B11372 GSU Microfilm Number: 1983529
I still can't find them at automatedgenealogy in 1911 (the search function there is the pits).
One son's death from the BC vital stats site:
Wilfred William Treloar Place Vananda Reg. Number: 1930-09-432908 Date: 1930 7 7 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 25 Event: Death Microfilm #: B13138 (GSU # 1952650) Copy Available
Births (accessible to 1903 only):
Harold Bennett Treloar Place Vananda Reg. Number: 1901-09-054722 Date: 1901 5 10 (Yr/Mo/Day) Event: Birth Microfilm #: B13817 (GSU # 2134887) Copy Available
and
Name: Harold Bennett Treloar Event Date: 1964 4 18 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 62 Gender: male Event Place: Nanaimo Reg. Number: 1964-09-005949 B.C. Archives Microfilm Number: B13266 GSU Microfilm Number: 2033689

and
Name: Amos Oswald Treloar Event Date: 1964 8 7 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 61 Gender: male Event Place: Grenville Channel Reg. Number: 1964-09-010789 B.C. Archives Microfilm Number: B13268 GSU Microfilm Number: 2033691
With the additional info, searching at Google for treloar vananda
http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/LONDON/1999-05/0926196534
English surnames from various cemeteries in B.C., Canada. Woodland Cemetery, Vananda: TRELOAR, William 1872-1946 no origin specified.
There just isn't a Philip in a record anywhere.
So here's what I suggest!
http://www.whitepages.ca/
There are 26 telephone listings for surname Treloar in British Columbia. I imagine most derive from Treloars who were there before your Treloar brothers (earlier families in the censuses and vital records). But there'd be no harm in sending out 26 letters to enquire.
*If* the William who died in 1946 was one of your brothers -- there are several Treloars in Powell River at present.

You're quite welcome!
Have you tried contacting the person who corrected the surname in the 1881 census at Ancestry?
Name: Phillip Tralor ? [Phillip Treloar] Age: 1 Estimated birth year: abt 1880 Relation: Son Father's Name: Bennet Mother's Name: Elizabeth Where born: Stratford, Essex, England Civil parish: West Ham County/Island: Essex Street Address: 34 Livingstone Rd Registration district: West Ham Sub-registration district: Stratford
Bennet Tralor ? 29 Elizabeth Tralor ? 25 Elizabeth Tralor ? 5 Bennett Tralor ? 3 Phillip Tralor ? 1
Surnames for all household members have been corrected but unfortunately no info about the user's relationsihp seems to be given. Could be the one with the tree I suppose. And also unfortunately, the corrections were made in 2006 and it's been over six months (could be 3 years) since that user logged in - but could be worth a try.
And you know ... I really would get that death certificate:
Name: Philip Treloar Estimated birth year: abt 1880 Year of Registration: 1893 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun Age at Death: 13 District: Whitechapel County: London, Middlesex Volume: 1c Page: 234
It matches your Philip in every respect, and there just is not another Philip Treloar it could be -- yours was the only one born within 20 years of 1880. In fact yours is the *only* Philip Treloar (except after 1900, see below). I think family history could really be inaccurate, as suggested earlier, and the WWII Canadians were likely the sons (or more likely grandsons?) of another brother.
The death certificate should give some info that would make it possible to identify that person -- address or parent's name, name of informant (possibly a family member if not an informant), for instance.
Also note that someone, perhaps a brother, seems to have named a baby in the next generation for him - perhaps because he died?

Hi there, I had a look in the TRELOAR GENEALOGY by Orson Lee Treloar but could not find your Phillip. There is a website dedicated to the 'Treloars' which might be useful (just 'google' it)! The name 'Phillip' is not a typical Treloar name, Bennet is very common, so if you have 3/4 generations all named ie. Bennett middle names may have been adopted to avoid confusion! The book mentioned above can be viewed on line. The Treloars can be traced back to c.1573 and the original name was TRELOWARTH also spelt TRELOARTH, hailing from Cornwall. Hope this helps. Regards, Kris

Looking back over this thread when it popped up today, I was going to say the same thing about Cornwall -- my grandfather was also born in West Ham to a father born in Cornwall whose parents and ancestors way back were there. ;)
Thought of one other place to look at re Treloars in WWII -- the Canadian Legion's "Last Post", which contains death notices of all vetarans whose deaths come to the attention of the Legion, but only relatively recently (from the 1990s).
http://www.legionmagazine.com/en/lastpost/
There are three Treloars there (the first year shown is year of death, the second date is the date the notice was published at Lat Post):
TRELOAR Leading Bombardier Albert J. (Doug) 77th Bty., 3rd Fld. Regt. World War 2 Brandon, Manitoba 2004 March/April, 2005
TRELOAR Lieutenant Ernest J. Royal Navy World War 2 British Columbia 1998 March/April 1999
TRELOAR Private William H. 2 Winnipeg Grenadiers Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada World War 2 Minnedosa, Manitoba 1999 March/April 2000
I don't suppose your dad has any idea what service the sons were in, but you could show him them.
Gof10/11, did you happen to get the 1893 death certificate?
Just to note that brothers Bennett and Thomas were botn in the 1901 census:
Name: Bennett Treloar Spouse: Louisa Treloar abt 1882 Birth: abt 1878 - Forest Gate, Essex, England Residence: 1901 - West Ham, Essex, England
Name: Thomas H Treloar Birth: abt 1885 - West Ham, Essex, England Residence: 1901 - West Ham, Essex, England
This seems to be Thomas in 1911:
TRELOAR THOMAS 1886 25 West Ham Essex TRELOAR ALICE 1887 24 West Ham Essex and kids Ivy and Thomas William
Marriages Jun 1908 FARROW Alice Eliza W. Ham 4a 312 Treloar Thomas Henry W. Ham 4a 312
More Treloar-Farrow births after 1913 in West Ham (I have not checked for deaths in infancy):
Alice M 1913 Emma V 1915 Beatrice M 1918 Edward C 1920 May E 1922 Frederick W 1925 Benjamin W 1927 John E 1927 (twins) Jean 1929 Ronald E 1931
and Bennett
TRELOAR BENNETT WILLIAM 1878 33 West Ham Essex TRELOAR LOUISA ELIZABETH 1881 30 West Ham Essex and kids Bennett Wiliam, Louisa Elizabeth, Florence Jane, May Lillian and Rosetta May.
Marriages Dec 1897 Foster Louisa Elizabeth W. Ham 4a 190 Treloar Bennett William W. Ham 4a 190
There are Treloar-Foster births in West Ham after 1911:
Edward T 1912 Thomas R 1915 Amelia F 1918 Robert J 1921 George C 1923
I wonder whether it was sons of Thomas and/or Bennett who were in the Canadian military in WWII?
