LOL! We are going around in circles!!!
This Fred:
1841 Ancestry
Name: Fredk Mason
Age: 30
Estimated birth year: abt 1811
Gender: Male
Where born: Middlesex, England
Civil parish: St James
Hundred: Westminster
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England
Registration district: St James Westminster
Sub-registration district: Golden Square
Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 735; Book: 2; Civil Parish: St James; County: Middlesex; Enumeration District: 2; Folio: 26; Page: 44; Line: 23; GSU roll: 438837.

Just doesn't look like "stone mason" to me.
(granted, my eyesight isn't the best.)

I don't think you're being picky Maureen just helpful in looking at all aspects of the 'Freds' I got my info' from Ancestry 1841 census and the Fred there was the stonemason. He was then said as being born in Middlesex.

Hi Patricia,
Sorry,I don't mean to be so "picky" and if you're satisfied that that's your Fred in St James on the 1841,that's certainly fine with me.
It's just that I'm almost certain that that Fred's occupation says "cordwainer" which is a far cry from stone mason.
Vera found what I also think is that other Fred in 1851:

RG number: HO107 Piece: 1524 Folio: 358 Page: 18

Reg. District: East London Sub District: Saint Botolph
Parish: Saint Botolph Without Bishopsgate Enum. District: 2A
Ecclesiastical District: City/Municipal Borough: London
Address: 3, Rose And Crown Court, Saint Botolph Without Bishopsgate, London
County: Middlesex
MASON, Frederick Head Unmarried M 37 1814 Shoemaker

Good luck with your research!

Morning Maureen, I have just written you a long reply and it seems to have dissappeared into the computer black hole in the sky.
So here we go again...Fred' Will' Mason 1811 I think he was working away from home on the 1841 census and had to be put on the Westminster one. Therefore his wife and children would have to complete a census where they were at that time which was West Ham Essex. His place of birth has varied between Hertfordshire..Essex..Middlesex,but with each one he has the same wife..date of birth..and same job..stonemason.
So I am going with this one.
regards Patricia

Chris, I think this is the same family, I have correct information back to Frederick dob 1811 Hertfordshire. All his children and his wife Elizabeth are the same up to and including my grandfather George Louis dob 1893.
Looking for Richard dob 1808 was a long shot, perhaps just a coincidence that the 2 Mason's worked at the same place in Westminster on the 1841 census.
I think it's quite possible for the family to have moved home, people had to follow the work and in those days and a 'tied' cottage often went with a job.
Thanks Patricia

Patricia,
I still don't think that's your Fred* in St James in 1841!!

If these three are the same family....Moved from Hemel to Ware?

THOMAS MASON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 26 DEC 1796 Hemel Hempstead, Hertford, England
FREDERICK WILLIAM MASON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 13 SEP 1811 Ware, Hertford, England
CHARLES MASON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 22 APR 1814 Ware, Hertford, England

Then this could be the marriage of John and Susanna.

Frederick William Mason, Seems he was working away when the census was done in 1841, I found him working at St James in Westminster.

Patricia Report 22 Jun 2010 14:09

Thanks Vera, the Frederick married to Elizabeth is the correct one, he was a Stone mason.
I think Mrs Grumpy has given me what I was looking for ie: Fred born in Ware Herfordshire I was just hoping to see if Richard was a brother, 'cos not many small families in those days ...pre television!
I will now search his parents John and Susannah.

A cordwainer (or cordovan) is somebody who makes shoes and other articles from
fine soft leather. The word is derived from "cordwain", or "cordovan", ...

Vera,
I think the ones you posted were the ones Patricia is looking for,but Fred isn't with his wife and children in 1841.

On the 41 census Ric'd (mistranscribed Reid) and Fred'k were both born in Middlesex.

Hi Patricia,
I'm having a bit of a problem with your information. Sorry, but both Fred and Richard seem to indicate that they were "born in county" on the 1841. (not that that is always correct!)
However,Fred's occupation looks more like "cordwainer" to me.

Where does your Fred end up in 1851??

Maureen
