I am trying to trace a Constance Margaret Mellor born c. 1903 I think in the Ecclesall Bierlow area. I have got her age from a marriage certificate. I have bought two wrong birth certificates one born Connie Mellor 1909 daughter of Arthur of Ecclesfield and the other wrong one Contance Margaret Mellor born 10 Aug 1904 of Ecclesall Bierlow also dau.of Arthur. I don't know any other of the family because her father died in 1906. I cannot trace her birth on freebmd, wondered if she was born in the U S and family returned to England around 1905-.-thanks J Le

Hi Astra
Thanks for the information. I'm not sure about it but the Mellors do have a connection to Huddersfield and that would fit in with a possible marriage of a Frederick Mellor in 1899 but I am sure the 'wife' was called Mary Ann Stones according to freebmd. I wonder if she called herself Maud instead of Mary Ann. I will have a little ponder.

thanks again- Janet

Thanks for that extra infomation as it proves that is the other Constance Margaret Mellor. I have the birth certificate for that person.

I have had a further look at the cert and it says that the mother is Maud Mellor formerly Bannister so unfortunately that is the wrong family.

You hadn't mentioned Frederick before. Is this the marriage you're referring to?

OK so we can discount that one. Where does Frederick come into the picture. Where did you get his name from? Is that her Father's name on her marriage certificate?

Janet

Janet Report 30 Jun 2010 13:53

Thanks Margaret, that does look interesting but it doesn't tally with her marriage cert, (but she could have been fibbing). The marriage of Frederick Mellor on freebmd is what I am looking at and will possibly send off for that certicate as I cannot make progress with this. I was just hoping the 1911 would give the answers .- Janet

What about this one?
1901 census
Top of Common. Earls Heaton, Dewsbury, Yorkshire
Fred Mellor, head, 34, born Hunslet
Mary A., wife, 38, born Barnsley
Emily, dau, 15, born "
Harold, son, 14, born Earls Heaton
Annie, dau, 11, born "
Doris, dau, 2 months, born "

I would say this is a second marriage for Fred, the older children being from a first marriage.

Janet

Janet Report 30 Jun 2010 13:59

Just to confirm that her father's name is Frederick and I confirmed this from the marriage cert of Constance. Also his place of birth was Huddersfield and the Mellors were stone masons......no not the women.
(Originally this person was just a cousin of my mothers. I knew there had been 14 children in my grandmothers family but trying to attach Constance to the right member of the family has proved quite difficult. The only positive information I have is the marriage cert of Constance, I do know that I have the right one. )- Janet

This looks to be the right family, as Mary Ann's brother is with them.

Yes, I'm sure you've got it, Choccy! Both the 1911 and 1901 censuses and I think that 1902 birth of Margaret Constance is the one.
Think I'll delete that incoming passenger list.

Janet

Janet Report 30 Jun 2010 14:52

Thanks again everyone for your input.

I think Choccy that seems correct I don't know how I have missed it in 1901. I think it is the spelling which has caused the problem in 1911. If this is correct I will have to try and find who this Albert was or because of the d.o.b did the usual happen....WWI. I will have another study and send off for yet another certificate.

Thanks to everyone for your efforts to help me-Janet Le
