Are there any clues for the origin of "Hayward" as the second name?

Hi everyone have been 'off the air' for the last year or so and have just rejoined to start this tree searching again. Last timeI was looking for my wifes father, Albert Hayward Bellard born 9.1.1920, place unknown, and lots of people gave some sound advice but unfortunatly I came to a dead end and had to give up tree work until now. There are some 'unusual circumstances' surrounding this which I would rather keep private except to say that his wife details are a dead end search.I have seen that the Bellard family tree is being researched by someone I think called Wiles on Ancestry but I cannot remember where I saw this or afford their prices at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Mags and Pete-details of us in last years post.

Hi Flick
He stated he was 25 and unfortunatly the DOB was provided by the Care Home where he was before dying at the Westwood Hospital, Beverley.
I have a couple of Avenues left open yet but they involve some address checking and a visit to the local library but if anything comes of it I shall submit a post.
Thanks

The DOB on a death cert cert is only 'as known' to the informant...and cannot necessarily be relied upon to be accurate........especially in this instance, where the place of birth seems not to have been known by the person registering the death

How old did he say he was when he married?

PM from Peter...

The date of birth, without place of birth, was recorded on the death certificate

Re service records
Can i suggest you have a look at this info on how to obtain service records.
It might be worthwhile intialy giving them a ring

Army service records are held by Service Number, Rank, Full Name and Date of Birth. It is important that as much of this information as possible is provided, together with the Regiment or Corps if known, to assist in locating the correct record.

Certificate of Kinship
Information from the personal record of a deceased Ex-serviceman/woman can be released only with the consent of the official Next of Kin. The Certificate of Kinship form aims to identify whose consent is required and the data you provide will be used only in connection with your enquiry. This form is retained for 2 years should you have subsequent queries.

There is no charge for enquiries from widows or widowers about their late spouse's service but for all other customers the charge is £30.00. A cheque, bank draft or postal order made payable to 'MOD Accounting Officer' should be included with the completed Certificate of Kinship and Search Document. No other form of payment can be accepted.

To download the Certificate of Kinship form, please click here.

Army Personnel Records and Family Interest Enquiries - Historical Disclosures
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) keeps the records of former members of our Armed Forces for administrative use after their discharge. For more information, click here.

A Subject Access Requests (SAR) form needs to be completed in order to access records.
Records for all ranks in the Army that served after 1920.

The following address should be used for ex-soldiers wishing to access their personal records

Army Personnel Centre,

hi everyone and thanks for all the very helpful replies. I have the death certificate and marriage certificate details for our Albert and have really come to an abrupt halt with his birth.I have checked Ancestry-Free BMD-YBMD and Hull RO in case it was missed but to no avail. I am writing to the MOD today to see if they can help .I have looked at all the Census returns for Ernest and found the Ernest and Elizabeth one which looks promising, thank you for finding this as well. I am Pete and my wife is Margaret it is her father I am looking for as they lost contact years ago.
I looked for my Grandfather for about 10 years and a little hint/clue from a like minded person as yourselves led me to find he had been abandoned when a small child and had not been christened under my surname but had reverted to it in his twenties. So he was never called the same surname as myself, in fact my surname is that of his paternal mother not his father so I am not who I thought I was, an interesting journey.
So thank you all again and again my fingers are crossed
Regards Mags and Pete.

Perhaps one of them will return at some stage........................he/they is/are not new to GR

What document records him as being born Jan 1920?

Flick

Flick Report 16 Jul 2010 22:25

As there are no apparent births for the Yorkshire marriage............the possibility may be that Albert was not the biological child of Ernest and/or his wife.

There appears to have been a Bellard/Wilson marriage in Lancs to tally with the births in the County
