Susan Report 19 Jul 2010 17:42

Have not been able to locate a Llewelyn Davies born Bala North Wales in 1898 since 1911 Census.

There was talk that he might have emigrated to America after WW1, no member of his family have heard from him since then.

This would be a big breakthrough if anyone can help with this mystery.

Thanking you very much

Netty thank you for looking, I knew it would be very unlikely he would be found!

I just wish I has some other information about him that I could add, thinking now I do recall a family member saying years ago, that he got into a fight prior to him leaving, vague I know.
Will look through hand notes to see if anything else but I don't think there will be!

His father was Henry, but sometimes called Harry and his mother was Anne/Annie

If this is his birth:

Births Dec 1898
Davies Llewellyn Bala 11b 333

Then this could be his death:

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005
about Llewelyn Davies
Name: Llewelyn Davies
Birth Date: 2 Nov 1898
Death Registration Month/Year: 1971
Registration district: Pontypridd

Although, this one fits with that death also:

Births Dec 1898
Davies Llewelyn Pontypridd 11a 618

aha, He was born 2nd November and yes in Bala, as I now recall I have those dates actually written down somewhere!

Well well, strange the family never heard from him as far as I know? now wonder if he was married and had children, this is getting exciting.....

But as you have said there is another Llewelyn same dates but have a feeling it is the one born in Pontypridd.
I would need to enquire really what do I do?

Thank you Rose

Susan Report 20 Jul 2010 12:27

wow Sylvia thank you so much for this information.
It now gives me another address to work from,
I did not know they had lived in Aberystwyth, the only hic cup I can see is that the birth year is out by 2 years.

How can I find any extra information that will give me the information needed to prove this is my relative?

Susan

Susan Report 20 Jul 2010 12:29

Aw Netty good try, but as you said this is not my relative.

Trouble is I have no proof that he did infact go to America or even left Wales! I can only go by what relatives have said over the years.

Yet another mystery!!

Susan,

If you have his birth cert. and know he was born on Nov. 2nd that must be his death. The odds of another Llewellyn being born on that date are very slim.

Purchasing his death cert. might reveal a relative as an informant.

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Jul 2010 18:41

well, you obviously need to check whether your Llewellyn with father Henry lived at the address in 1911

so you need to check on the 1911 Census to see who is living there

Then there are the Electoral Rolls ..... they were not taken during the war years, but you might find something before or after the war.

Rose, yes I think the same as you and will speak to Pontipridd Registry Office tomorrow, will let you know the outcome.

Susan

Susan Report 20 Jul 2010 22:15

Sylvia, thank you for this, I know they were not living in
8 Poplar Row, Aberystwyth in 1911, but the family seemed to move around often, so need someone who can have a look in the Electorsl Rolls if possible.

His occupation on the British Army WWI Pension Records was hawker, same as his father in 1901.

Thank you both Sylvia and Rose.
I contacted Pontipridd Registry Office and what a very nice lady answered my query, sadly that Death Registered is not my relative

Mort

Mort Report 21 Jul 2010 10:20

By strange chance, i think the Llewellyn Davies in Pontypridd is in my tree and was my daughter's gt grandfather. They lived in Llanbradach in Caerphilly, but Pontypridd was the registration district.. If it helps this Davies family were originally from Magor, Monmouthshire.

Susan Report 21 Jul 2010 15:08

Heidi,
The kind lady said this Llewelyn Davies was not born in Bala, so sorry I can not add any more for you.

My Davies family were from Llanrwst, but family kept moving around, the family members were usually Hawkers but I know that one son and his sons were painters.

Llewelyn has been a missing link for my mam's family for many years and is still thought of today and wonders if he married and had any children.

Susan

Susan Report 22 Jul 2010 12:52

Just found some hand written notes that I made a few years back, so I apologise for my previous error.

Llewelyn Davies born 18th November 1898 Bryn Caled Alley Bala Merionth.

I do believe that the family moved before 1911 Census were possibly living in Llunduno Junction,

But I still wonder if The Army Records are his though as being a hawker and same surname was not uncommon then?

Could anyone have a look for me please on the Elector Rolls/Cunsus

Thank you
