If you go to the attestation search screen URL I posted earlier, and click on search help, it tells you how to get a copy of his service record - the cost is $0.40 per page, plus postage - I paid abt $33 for 60 odd pages (posted to a Canadian addy). My guy had an extensive medical record attached, but it was a very good purchase.
You could email the city of Toronto library and ask them if they have an appropriate city directory but, even so, it's liable to just list William, or maybe the adults.
Arlington Ave is a N-S cross street to St Clair Ave, abt 1 km E of Prospect Cemetery. I don't really know Toronto - I live thousands of km away - it's just that one of the benefits of my auto club membership (BCAA) is that I can ask for free maps of places in N America.

Many thanks for this informative reply! I did look at the attestation papers of William and wondered why it was struck through with the word "discharged" at the top of it? Obviously he was discharged but i am not sure why?injury ect? I definately think he came from Dumfermline (Alloa) and Belleville is where he met his wife Ada who was working for the Kelso family at the time..so it all fits in there..I think it wasn't him that visited Coventry during the was but possibily a son or friend who knew his wife came from the area..and i think it was maybe the second WW not the first..but this all has to be proven first! Is there anyway of finding out the other members of their family from an address given on one of their children's death cert in 1925? I have a daughter; Agnus Wilson (6years old)looks like 428(or 420)Arlington Ave,York,Toronto, address of undertaker;1141 Clair St .Date of death July 17th 1925.. it's a shot in the dark, but thought it might be worth a go. Thankyou for all your help aready given.Lin

You can get a copy of William's attestation paper (if you've not done so already) via: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php
Name:WILSON, WILLIAM Regimental number(s):136173 Reference:RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 10480 - 24 Date of Birth:04/06/1888 Attestation paper: Front of form - Back of form
http://www.cefresearch.com/matrix/Army%20Corps/Divisions/Reorganized%20Units/Absorbed%20by%20Active/74th%20Battalion.htm Stewart reports that the unit was mobilized at Toronto, Ontario with a strength of 1,046 men and was absorbed by the 51st Infantry Battalion to provide reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field. This would normally place this unit in the "Absorbed by Reserve Battalion List", however the reports from Love and Meek differ from that of Stewart.
Love reports that the 74thInfantry Battalion was absorbed by the 50th, 51st and 52nd Infantry Battalions, as well as the 2nd CMR (Canadian Mounted Rifles). The 51st from Edmonton was itself broken up to provide reserves to a reserve battalion, but the 50th and 52nd Infantry Battalions, as well as the 2nd CMR were "active battalions" that saw service in France and Flanders. Please check their respective pages for additional details (see links below): 50th Infantry Battalion: 10th Infantry Brigade, 4th Canadian Division 52nd Infantry Battalion: 9th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division 2nd CMR: 8th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division
Meek notes that the unit was recruited from Peel and York counties in Ontario and was mobilized at Camp Niagara. It was active in Canada from September 5, 1915 to April 1, 1916 and in England from April 9, 1916 to September 30, 1916. Meek records state agreement with Love as to the final disposition of the unit.
Incidentally, Wm's attestation says pob=Dunfermline, i.e., abt 18 km E of Alloa. Also, Belleville is only 185km E of Toronto.
Ont births after 1913 are closed - I think they don't have 1913 online yet - should be later this year then.
I don't see why Wm would turn up in Coventry - how would anyone know anyways. The main CEF base was Shorncliffe just outside Folkstone. I could see a son turning up in WW2 though.

Can I say a very big thankyou to everyone who has sent me messages helping me with this thread, i hadn't replied because i was unaware that i had messages and how to collect them! That said..I do know Ada came to Canada on the S.S.Dominian in 1904 and I am thrilled some kind person has given me 2 names of children who sadly died very young..is there any way i might be able to find any other children, as story has that one of the family came to (?was stationed in)Coventry..Ada's home town in the war..and tried to find details out for her about her roots..I do know her husband William was a soldier during the ww1 in the 74th Battalion Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force..but i don't see he would have been sent to Coventry(..no pun intended!)..anyway thankyou to all who sent me messages and did not get a thankyou back!

For ref: Census nominal date was 1/6/1911, so she'ld arrive too late for Canadian, but would have left late enough to appear on English 1911.
Incidentally, I think Alloa is more likely as Wm Wilson's pob than Allon - I don't know that the latter even exists.

There's an Ada Barton on the incoming passenger list from Montreal, Canada to Liverpool, 8 July, 1911, aboard the Corsican. No age is given, she's a domestic.

MM - I looked up the Sarnia passenger list at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php
Ada is on image 6 (of 7), but she's down as aged 12 or older, and a servant, so I don't think that lass is the right Ada.
I've another problem with this record - I can't find a Wirthington union, nor anything like it. There're several Withington's, but none is head of a union, and none is near Coventry. Of course, if, say, the Chorlton union workhouse were built in Withington, I could see it being referred to as the Withington union workhouse. (NB - I don't know where the Chorlton w/h is)

I wonder if she was adopted by a family in Canada and had her name changed? I can't find her on the 1901 or 1911 census in Canada.
