Rachel

So glad you have found his death certificate!

Now you have a date of death you could contact the local authority and ask them to do a search for his burial / cremation. There is usually a charge for this.

Another place to look is www.deceasedonline.com but I am not sure if it will cover that area yet. They are increasing their database all the time so it is worth keeping an eye on. You can search it free but there is a small charge to view the records. If you are lucky enough to find a burial on that site, you can view all the internments in the same lair.

Good luck.

Rachel Report 27 Aug 2010 20:42

The cert has arrived and im 98% sure its him!! It has his occupation as a bus conductor which i know he was and the person who registered his death is his wife who is named as E Platts which i know is the name of his 2nd wife!! woohoo!! makes it all worth while!

Now for the next part of my challenge....how do i find out where he is buried or wether he was cremated. Will i have to just visit the church and search the headstones or is there a way you can find out online? thankyu everyone xx

EDIT - JUst bumping this back up to the 1st page :o)

Rachel

Rachel Report 22 Aug 2010 13:21

ooo strange!! how else would i be able to find the info out? or do people on here have ways and means of getting it ;-)
thanks for your help so far!! i really appreciate it... once i have this cert, (hope its the right one) then i can find a burial hopefully!
The only reason i thought it was earlier is because i got in touch with a relative on here and he said herbert was definitely dead before 1962 when someone else in the family died...hmm i hope this is him?! x
EDIT thankyou sooo much!! x

It's Q1 - you have to click on the image to find the quarter.

Hmm! I'm not sure about the quarter as it doesn't give one on Ancestry!!

Just as a by the way, I hope some comes and answers this query as I had the same thing when I tried to order my aunt's death certificate and strangely it was Sheffield too!!

Rachel

Rachel Report 22 Aug 2010 13:15

yeah ive got that info in but its asking for the quarter and i have no idea what quarter he died in. x

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 22 Aug 2010 13:13

It's the bit

Registration District (You enter) Sheffield
Year (You enter the Year) 1965
Volume (You enter) 2d
Page (You enter) 140

That's assuming it is the first one that you want.

Rachel

Rachel Report 22 Aug 2010 13:10

ah ive gone back and managed to change the info but its asking me for the quarter he died in and this i dont know?

Rachel

Rachel Report 22 Aug 2010 13:08

do you mean the gro reference as i dont know how to work that out?! sorry im new to this :o) x

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 22 Aug 2010 13:06

Rachel

I don't think you need the date if you indicte that you have reference for the year, voulme number and page number.

EDIT

Near the bottom of the first page there is a bit that says
Is the GRO Reference known - select yes.

Hi again....im ordering the death cert at the minute fo the 1st one roots gave me and it is saying that the date of death is a required field yet i dont know what this is....what do i do now?

Corinne Report 14 Aug 2010 20:39

Death cert at that time would tell you date & place of death, cause of death, and name of informant. If you're lucky the informant will be a family member.

Rachel

Rachel Report 10 Aug 2010 12:27

if i buy the death cert what other info will it tell me so i can determine wether i have the right person or not?

Thanks for all your help so far : o )

I don't see a death in Pontefract that fits the year of birth and the timescale for his death. So looks quite likely that the first one posted is correct. As Corinne has said the only way to be certain is to buy the certificate.

Corinne

Corinne Report 9 Aug 2010 21:46

It looks like it's the first one that Rootgatherer found for you, Rachel. You will only find the actual date by purchasing the death certificate.
