What do you think LadyAugusta?
Interesting the Salford connection as William Pettengale's sister spent a few years in Salford.

My Mum has a recollection of a dark skinned family visiting them when she was small and thoght it was to do with my grandmothers side but this story is making me wondere?
There are a number of Straughns born in Barbados on the IGI but not a Theodore..

LK - I see you have a 'good relationship with 'LA' , and now with 'Joan',
But I have put a great deal of work into this and have come up with a suggestion which may or may not connect.

You have not acknowledged this 'effort'

That is not like you !! - It would be very nice not to be ignored !!

The rest of the 'helpers' do not seem to have a mention either ???

I am so sorry you are upset Dea.
I have not been able to get back here this afternoon as I have a Court Guardian visiting tomorrow re my grandson.
I am very grateful for your input on this. I did mention I thought the Salford connection interesting. as William Pettengale's sister and family are in Salford in 1911.

1911 census - household transcription
Person: SMITH, Richard Edward
Address: 3 Derg Street Pendleton Salford
SMITH, Richard Edward Head Married M 27 1884 Drawing Insterment Maker London Baw Middlesex
SMITH, Emma Wife Married
7 years F 26 1885 Essex Stratford
SMITH, Richard Edward Son M 5 1906 Essex Forest Gate
SMITH, Willie Son M 2 1909 Essex Forest Gate

Still no definite connection with addresses or anything yet though but it looks promising.

It was perhaps silly timing to post. I will have a bit more time tomorrow after noon. when this is all over.Thank you all once again for your ideas.

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 15 Aug 2010 21:55

His death should be betwween 1916 when Ginny found him in NZ and 1919 when Helen remarries.
I have checked CWGC. There is an unlikely T Straughen who was a soldier.
