Uh oh! She seems to be illegitimate, Daughter of Sarah Stiff, unmarried.

Sounds like it could be the one Margaret, if she born in Somerton, and there is a John Cooper married to a sarah stiff in the Risbridge district, is a bit of a coincidence. Thank you for your help it is much appreciated

I think the only way you can find the surname of Sarah is to apply for the birth certifcate of one of the children. the 1911 census shows they had 5 children and 4 living in 1911.

I cannot find their marraige

I was just going to ask the question Is Somerton the same as Somerleyton? (I'm just a dumb Canadian.)
There's a Sarah Stiff on earlier censuses born 1851 Somerton. Trouble is she's just turning up as a niece.

Margaret, on 1911 census it says she is from somerton, nnot Somerleyton.

I had a look in bdm and there was a John Cooper married in Risbridge which is where Wickhambrook covers married dec 1880, and there is a sarah Stiff in that list, but i don't know how to find out if she maybe was born in Somerleyton.

He was still single in 1871 so we know he married 1871-1881.

Think he was just John cooper

Was he, perhaps, John Beckett Cooper? Mutford covers Somerlyton where Sarah was from.
