Thanks for letting us know, Janey.

You're quite welcome. Unfortunately, it dead-ended a bit. Two surviving children for whom I don't see obvious marriages. (I wonder whether they might have adopted a stepfather's surname, now that I think ... except I can't find a remarriage for their mother.)

As I mentioned in the PM, though, the name in the GR member's tree that I found on a search then led me to the mother's birth record, so there's one possible lead. A delicate task. Don't hesitate to ask if anything else comes up!

Edit - with a little further digging (there's always incentive when one gets as very nice a reply as I did from MG), I've found contact info for people very closely connected to the first wife, and hope that will work out.

Thankyou so much

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Sep 2010 21:08

There's a marriage in Suffolk that seems most likely. Since this is getting a little sensitive, I'll send you that privately, along with the likely children (they fit -- born up to 1938).

MARY GEORGINA

MARY GEORGINA Report 1 Sep 2010 20:40

Hi, I've decided that the census entry re Norfolk/Suffolk is the one I'm looking for, as that is listed on the 'marriage' certificate. As my father is no doubt dead now, I'm now looking for any half brothers /sisters from the legal marriage-my mother seemed to think there were some. The legal marriage was to a lady called Rosemary-no maiden name known-and could have taken place any time from about 1930 onwards.
Yes, the brigadier bit seems to be a red herring.
Thankyou once again for all your help!

Thankyou to all of you-I will digest all of this and take action. I am most grateful.

I agree.

Yes, but ours was born in 1909 and the quarter of the birth registration perfectly matches the birth date on that death -- 1909, not 1895. ;)

Mary Georgina needs to start by getting Sidney's birth certificate.

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 30 Aug 2010 23:21

As for Cambridgeshire death, there is info on the Cambridgeshire County Council Archives referring to a Sidney A. B. Bird.

Also a Sidney A. Bird born in Ipswich in 1895. So there might be another Sidney out there.

Ozi

P.S. I realize there's a discrepancy in age between Ipswich Sidney & Cambridgeshire death.

Flippin heck JC,what you want from her, sugar on it?

JC had a go about MY 1911 pasting earlier and I have had to try and adjust mine too...Sighs...

I cant find him on Google either and have to go with Ozi on the "prob telling porkies"unless of course there is a regiment on the marriage cert to be checked out?

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 30 Aug 2010 23:13

Looks like the Brigadier might have been telling porkies. Can't see a Brigadier Bird other than Brigadier Richard Bird in Australia

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 30 Aug 2010 23:13

Sidney's birth was registered apr-may-jun 1909.

Do old brigadiers retire to Cambridge? ;)

Name: Sidney Bird
> Birth Date: 13 May 1909
> Death Registration Month/Year: 1983
Registration district: Cambridge
Inferred County: Cambridgeshire
Volume: 9

That is the only possibly perfect match in the death records -- it would have to be compared to the age on his birth certificate.

The thing to do next is search trees here at GR (button in the row above your thread) for all of the names you now have. Whether or how you decide to approach anyone is a question no one else could answer.

Pollypoppet, a few of us have agreed.

Trying to decipher those census outputs makes us old hands lose the will to live. Lord knows what they do to newbies.

Even if you don't delete the meaningless bumph ("Occupation juvenile"), maybe you could just add a space between each person so it's possible to figure out what is there?

Edits..Brigadier of what regiment?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 30 Aug 2010 23:01

You say he was born 1910 or 1911 -- is that his age from the marriage certificate? What's the source of his parents' names?

Do you know anything about his first marriage (assuming it was him who was married)?

Whoa, wait, a Brigadier?? Have you googled him?
