	Did they stay in Nottinghamshire as far as you know? Might help to have his actual birth date as if he died after 1970 this will be shown on the records (assuming the informant knew it). 	Have you found Ethel's death? I know it's a bit of a tangent but her death cert might give a clue or two. There are only 4 in Nottinghamshire and birth years are widely spaced so might be possible to pin her down: Ethel Hardy 1892 1971 Basford Nottinghamshire Ethel Hardy 1899 1972 Nottingham Nottinghamshire Ethel Hardy 1905 Apr 1984 Nottingham Nottinghamshire Ethel Cicely Hardy 1897 Jul 1992 Nottingham Nottinghamshire

	Was she a widow by then? Doesn't narrow it down much, but still. If you have an address (or two!) you might be able to look on the electoral registers and see if Ethel is there with or without John. The success of this would depend on them staying put though. Jan
