Thank you Flick and Minnie. I do use free bmd but only get limited success with it.
I like to use the GR search trees to see is anyone else is searching the same people. I was hoping to put the friend in touch with other close family members.
It's hard to believe that at only 52 you only really know your parents names. He didn't even know where they married. He had lost both parents and 4 siblings before he was 30 and I suppose he hadn't thought of searching for family. It looks like both his parents were the youngest or next to in their families, making it almost certain that aunts and uncle have passed away too.
