Thanks again for helping look for Ebert English.
When were the enlistments for ?
I am wondering because on the roll in QLD in 1949 he was listed as a soldier and I think I had told you that is where I received his DOB when he enlisted here . Unless he had a son with the same name he would be getting quite old to be joining up in the 1940's. Bearing in mind one has to be 21yrs old to get on the roll.
Mary O'Connell was about 36yrs when she married Ebert in NSW.
I think that is abit old to be starting to have children.
Anyway it's food for thought.

Whether the dob is 1875 or 1876, it still seems a pretty big discrepancy from the 1889 in the initial post.

I have just found two sets of enlistment papers both in the name of Ebert G English born in Philadelphia but slightly differing birth dates. So I wonder if we are dealing with two people of the same name or whether it is just a mistake. The information they contain makes me think that there are two of them.

I can't find a marriage for them but maybe someone with more knowledge of American records will be able to find it.

This is the 1900 for the family. Ebert is listed as a Corporal in the US military but I don't understand how he could be listed at home as well as in the Philippines. Maybe there was a gap between the two records. His mother is listed as Anna E with a birth date of November 1859. Frank is noted as an Artist and on the earlier records he is an Ornamental Painter so it is definitely the same family.

I am pretty sure you have the right person. Looks like he may have changed a few details about himself.
I will try and find some info when he died. Maybe a Death Notice in the Brisbane paper may shed some light.

I've just found a tree on Ancestry with him but it doesn't have any more infomation than what I have found and it doesn't show him in Australia but that maybe because they haven't found that information yet.
The fact that he was an Engineer seems to prove that this is the same man.
His mother anna or Annie says she was born in Virginia but I can't find her under Bryant or Baring but looking at her age in 1880 she may have been married before she met Frank.
The tree has no information about Annie at all but gives Frank as being born in 1855 so maybe Annie was born later than the 1850 given on the 1880

He was with his regiment in the Philippines as a corporal

Still not sure if this is the right person or not. He is now Ebert J but it could be read as either a J or a G. He is now married to Stella and is a civil engineer
