Try applying to Manchester office with stipulation that you only want it if it matches your info.

hi again to all of you, many thanks for helping me. Now im wondering about sending for a death cert for THOMAS HEWITT Sept qtr of 1895 in Chorlton Manchester 8c 483
BUT im not sure that its him, my great uncle, so im wondering which is the best way to order a cert? I think the GRO dont do checks for you unless you pay extra for a search, whereas the local Registrars usually do checks, and if its not the one you want then they return the cheque. Im not keen to pay for a search! If I order a cert stating that it MUST Be THOMAS HEWITT born 9 JAN 1858 in Old Swan, Liverpool, and his parents names were JOSHUA and ELLEN HEWITT and it isnt, then I wont be wanting the certificate. what do you do when you arent sure as to if youve got the right person?

Thanks for the feedback Ted.

Old Swan Liverpool makes more sense ... just goes to show you can never trust everything you read on a census.
Cheers.

Michael, hi, second time, ive only just noticed the error on
the 1861 census, The birthplace for THOMAS and his sister JANE should read "0LD SWAN" and not "OLD TOWN" i know for certain where they were both borth as ive got the family bible wiht the whole family listed names dates and places of birth.

but thats irrelevent, so thanks again.

Ted, when you say "he's been missing off all the census returns after 1871" - do you mean that he's not with his parents? There are quite a few entries that could be him ,particularly as single boarders.

Ted, no-one on here can see anything other than the FreeBMD details. Usually, the certificate is the only answer.

However, that doesn't stop us from trying to poke around and find some facts.

Ted

Ted Report 14 Oct 2010 23:24

hello, ive found an entry on FREEBMD for Thomas Hewitt, and i'm hoping that this could be my g.uncle, the son of Joshua and Ellen Hewitt, and I dont seem to be able to find any record of his parents, and im hoping someone somewhere would know where I could find out, before i go to all the the problem of sendding off for a certificate only to find out that he isnt the guy
im looking for. Any help would be most apprecciated. TED, he's been missing off all the census returns after 1871 and I just dont seem to be able to find out whats happened to him since 1871
