Have you tried the site I suggested????

rootgatherer Report 3 Nov 2010 14:09

I am not a hundred percent sure but think that Civil Registration in Ireland was around 1865 - even later than Scotland! So you may need to be looking at Church Records but I don't know if these can be accessed online.

If you live near enough, have you tried the Poor Relief Records in the Mitchell Library? These can be a good source if you are "lucky" enough to have had poor Irish ancestors come to Glasgow.

Hi flick yes tried that site didnt get anything but maybe Im doing something wrong.
hi rootgatherer yes have looked at Mitchell library got some details but still missing these records as the ML only told us when they were "returned" to Ireland but as childrens births prove they came back to Glasgow! From the research I have done I dont think you can view any Irish/church records online does anyone know differently?

From the site that Flick has suggested there is a little bit about research - that's assuming that you were going in person. It doesn't make it clear if they will do a search on your behalf - as in your case where you have a date and county.

This seems to be what is available....

" Non-Roman Catholic Marriages registered in the island of Ireland between 1st April, 1845 and 31st December, 1863 inclusive.
Marriages registered in the island of Ireland between 1st January, 1864 and 31st December, 1921 inclusive and in Ireland (excluding Northern Ireland ) from 1922 onwards."

According to the website above , Civil registration in Ireland dates from 1845, but that's as much as I know. Never had any need for Irish records, so no experience of their availability

thanks Flick,
I cant find anywhere that lets you view records online so maybe a trip to Ireland is on the cards (in my xmas stocking perhaps?)

Linda...here are some variations of the surname found in Scotland and in the Co.Fermanagh ...the Kilfeather surname(as spelt you can find in the Co Sligo 1901 Census) have only found 1 for earlier years eg GV..."John" ..Killenaule.

Co Fermanagh
Gillfeather/Gilfidder/Kilfether/Kilfedder...plenty around also a Bernard in Inverness...

There is a Michael Gilfeather (Co Leitrim) and Sarah Gilfeather (Co Tipp) in the Poor House Tradeston Glasgow 1851.
If you have access to Scotlands People check out the marriage of Francis Gilfeather to Mary Ward. Gorbals ...14 Sept.1851.
