Joseph Creek born c1900-1910. Do not know where born, possibly New Zealand. Married Winifred Rose Morris 1930's New Zealand.

He may have been from the Waitmati area New Zealand.

I am completely stumped with this man. I cannot find anything prior to his marriage to Winifred.

Can someone help.

Thankyou, Loraine, Adelaide

No Creek births listed in NZ that fit, and no Creek marriages >1880 that could be his parents, so probably not born in NZ

There is a Joseph Creek death registered in 1957 aged 51 which gives a birth date of 1906. No record in UK for that date so probably not born there. There is one born 1897 in Manchester though.

If it is the right death, then the death cert should give you a lot of information.

The marriage cert might also help

Hi Peter,

Thankyou and yes he did die in 1957 but unfortunately his son guessed at his age as he did not know the actual age.

Unfortunately the death certificate does give any information at all as it was filled out by the son who did not know anything about his father's family.

Guess I will have to keep digging.

Cheers,
Loraine

Hi Loraine,
I have found Joseph Creek married Winifred Rose Morris, and a Winifred Rose Ferguson in NZ 1935. Winifred possibly married twice, once being her maiden name?. Joseph's surname could possibly have been Creeke. I will do abit more research. There is a Joseph Creeke death 28th Dec 1948 age 70yrs in Hillcrest cem (Whakatane), does this sound like the correct one.
Cheers

Hi Loraine,
Yes Winifred Rose maiden name is Ferguson. She married Arthur Desmond Morris in 1928 and divorced him in 1935. Divorce records are held at Archives Auckland. She then married Joseph in 1935. Have you got the married cert for Joseph & Winifred. (The death in 1948 is wrong yours is the correct one - 1957)
Cheers Julie

Hi Loraine, I found the same year and age as Peter died, in 1957 aged 51. They are both buried in Kaiwaka. Winifred died in 1985 no age.
They married in 1935. Pat

Hi Loraine, did Joseph ever had anything to do with the fir brigade in Wellington and in Australia. Papers Past NZ hold a piece on a Joseph Creek "A Life of Thrills". written in 1926 and it records that he was born 46yrs ago in the Bay of Plenty area, making birth about 1880. A reason why a birth doesnt show on the BDM is that the spelling of the name could be incorrect, which means a trip to the library and searching through the mirco fich. The marriage cert would be the one to go for though as he would have known the name of his parents and birth, one would hope. Cheers Julie

Adding to Julie Annes message. There is a photo of Joseph Creeke in his fire mans uniform in the 10th July 1926 Evening Post

Evening Post 21st Sept 1934

Arthur Desmond Morris 28 a recent arrival to Australia from New Zealand, pleaded guilty to bigamy.
It was stated in evidence Morris terrorised a second woman threatening to kill her and her parents and then commit suicide if she didnt marry him.

He was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment the judge recommending that he be released if arrangements could be made for Morris to return to New Zealand and assurance be given he will never return to Australia

Hi,

What website did you find this photograph?
I have a feeling my step-uncle said at one time that my Joseph's father had the same name as his.
I have tried all forms of the name Creek but not once did I put an Ë"on the end.
Thanks

Hi,

This is correct.

Interestingly enough the judge at a later date threw out a lot of the allegations made by the "bride". He served 6 months in total. The judge did not believe there was any duress on behalf of the "bride"as she knew that he was already married. Who knows the exact truth as there are no survivors to tell. Still it was an interesting story.

Hi Julie Anne,

Winifred was married twice. First to my grandfather Arthur and then to Joseph Creek. I am wondering if Joseph who died 1948 was his father. Apparently Joseph Jr did not tell his children anything about his family. They all thought that he had been alienated from the family for a long time and a very young age. I would dearly like to be able to put together some information about this amn not just for myself but for his children. My father was the son of Arthur and Joseph was his step-father.

Cheers,
Loraine

You asked where you can find the photo of Joseph Creeke.
Its PapersPast NZ
The article says he was Superintendant of the Wellington fire brigade and was born in New Zealand but for some years did duty in the Sydney Metropolitan Brigades]
There is also another article in Evening Post 24th Nov 1932
Inquiry about Joseph Creeke alleged using petrol ,supplies and material out of the brigades stores for his and his sons cars

Another article Fighting Fires Evening Post 15th Jan 1927 states Joseph Creeke came over from the Circular Quay Fire Station Sydney the previous year

Loraine Report 10 Nov 2010 05:00

Hi,

I have sent an email to the peron on GR - no reply to date.
Fingers XX.
I have no idea if he was adopted. I just wish I could find something - something will turn up eventually.

I know of an official adoption in New Zealand in 1911 and the childs original birth registration is removed

Loraine

Loraine Report 11 Nov 2010 00:29

Hi,

Are you able to tell me anything about the adoption?
How did you find out that the name could be Creek?
You have me completely at your mercy with this news. Does it say how old the child was when adopted?

If this is perhaps the same person it may be why he never talked about his own family to his children. His children think that he was born October, 1906.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,
Loraine

There is an illegitimate Bernard Creek registered in 1907 - possible connection - mother is Kathleen Ethel Maud Creek
