Or it could just be that the person taking down the details of birth just did'nt hear the last name?? of May and registered him as Ernest Clifford Neve???????

If you order the cert. say you only want it if the parents are John J and Ellen.

Colin has definately got the right family as Ellen is born Glous Bristol.

On his Marriage cert. it says Ernest Clifford Neve May father John Joseph May (Deceased) whose occupation was Slater Journeyman.

The 1901 Census is the one I did find. Which led me to the Marr. Cert.

I do know that Ernest left his wife and children, his wife set up home with a sailor and had two more children. Although they were unable to marry, the two children took his surname. I wonder if this is the case with Ernest's mother and John Joseph May.

Jinet have you got his marriage cert. please. If not how do you know his father was John Joseph, and was he Neve or May please. Or was his wife May or Ellen?? you don't make that very clear.

I think that James transcribed as 18 could actually bee 10. they are in an institution but no father. If they said they did'nt come from the parish they were in they did'nt get parish releif. It looks like they may have been in the workhouse.

Ther e is this but his mother is a domestic servant and her name is Ester Neave born Norfolk. There is also a James Neave 18 with these people.

I have been looking on Ancestory. doing birth lookups, with different variations of his name as nothing came up except his marriage.

He left his wife and children shortly after there marriage so grateful for the Death notice too. Although my Gran put on her marriage cert in 1940 that he was deceased.
