Find Ancestors

This is a very interesting story of a boy born illegitamately in the days when this was a serious event.
My dad says his fathers real dad was the local priest/vicar and his mum dissapeared leaving him to be brought up by a very strict old aunty wether they were really related i dont know.As he died in Bath in 1958 aged 66 we dont know any mother information or if she really was Rogers or the name was just given?
My grandad was a chief petty officer in the navy and was bitter because he couldnt rise above that rank as he was illegitamate and that cursed him throughout his career.
They had a family home in the 1930's my dad recalls at 8 willow vale frome.
My grandad married Alice Lilly Bailey who's details i have but im really after any links on grandads real parents or siblings if any or war records.
In 1939 my dad says his dad went off to portsmouth for 5 years training navy personel in gunnery operations.I know he also had several medals but those have vanished over the years.
i have tried but failed somewhat and i know already there are vast amounts of internet guru's on this site with real detective skills and years of family tree experience that could help me.

Do you have a birth certificate for Herbert John Rogers? I cant see an obvious birth of that name, was he born under a different name?

If he died in 1958 aged 66 he would have been born 1892?

The reference of purley as a servent at 16 in an vicarage with the clergy man head of the family ties in nicely to my grandads claim i think of him being the father.
She then moved or 'got sent away' more likely to the sway,hampshire area where later she has met john spikesman on the census showing herbert as a 'stepson' at 8 years old.
later census information wouldnt show too much as he ran away to join the navy at 14 or possible earlier who gave him his education and naval career.
im phoning my dad who's in his 80's to make him smile about his dads secret conception so once again-Thank you so much-merry x-mas
